XPO | New pups?????

Exactly, don't get comfortable. They already figured out part timers at two thirds of your pay with no bennies can do what you do. Having contractors on the dock is not out of the question.
Contractors can't operate forklifts on the dock unless XPO insures them. When I was a contractor at FedEx Freight we weren't even supposed to be allowed on the dock for that reason.

Unless the contractor provides its own insurance, hell, they can bring their own forklift too. Imagine the cost savings that will provide. Never say never.

I'd love to know what contractor would provide their own insurance and/or forklift to work the dock at XPO. There's not enough money in it and XPO wouldn't provide enough incentive without it being more expensive than the part-time employees.

The thing you need to remember about owner/operators is that they can't do everything for less money than you. In order for a contractor to do anything, it has to be worth it. And few are willing to bleed to death so XPO can profit.

You can assume that but I wouldn't recommend taking it as a givin .

Im not 100 % sure but I don't think there is any law that mandates a/c in commercial trucks.. I have heard rumor of it but never have seen the law. I could be wrong about the law and will stand corrected if someone can show me it. I think that Con-way did it to attract new drivers when it started getting more difficult to find drivers while they reduced compensation and benefits. The same with the power windows and radios . They were all about making the equipment more attractive to perspective drivers. I been doing this for 40 yrs and back in the day when driver pay benefits were more attractive companies didn't see the need to have such creature comforts there was even a little attitude from the company's as pay back because you got paid well and you were a union member. Just look at the Otr companies they gone as far as to let you have a dog in the tractors just to attract drivers. The company's are competing for a small pool of prospects and do not want to increase pay and benefits to attract but rather add small one time cost creature comforts to lure drivers in.
I know this may be a little for some to comprehend but it took a little more than hamburgers and hot dogs and creature comforts to keep us focused on what we came to work for. Good pay and benefits.
The power windows, A C, and other things except the satellite radio started showing up on Trucks only because it was actually costing more to leave options off the Trucks ,than to go ahead and put the options on.( It would be more cost effective in the production line not to delete options). Sterling Trucks came standard with a crime grill, Con-way would have to pay extra to remove it and put a painted white grille on the truck. They never really cared about Driver comfort .

Your pal Gene posted a link that says you don't have to have everything working so that kind of disproves your theory of having to

The concept of "gooks in the wire" is completely alien to you. Do you want me to put it together for you in a five paragraph order?

The U.S. American worker has been on the endangered list for sometime. Is it by design, some will say yes, others will point to their **** poor work ethic. We are living in an economy where the bottom bid wins.

We have been supplanted by wave after wave of non-native workers for decades now. They work for a pittance. How will your children compete with that. Many now a days refuse to work labor intensive jobs for minimum wage. They will work their days out at the local McDonald's, or Starbucks or forever suck on the guberment's milkless teat for sustainment. As these corporatist fascist rebuild a feudal/vassal system with a promise of a totalitarian socialist state. They will be jumping in head first wearing their birthday suits. Thinking it is the greatest thing since apple pie.

Oops, I meant a "humanitarian technocratic socialist state". Not a "totalitarian socialist state". Did not mean to let that one out of the bag.

With the new E logs coming into line they will use more part timers on the dock. eBiTa is spot on with this the focus is on cheaper labor where it can be used.
Isnt funny how as more and more barns are getting elog the freight is showing up the the FAC in a more timely manner. We were told they will be watching for the ones that sit just short of the FAC waiting for loads so they don't have to work the dock. If your on break that's OK but they will even watch that to. Remember if you go on break to early you might have to take another durning your shift.

Isn't it funny. The slugs are exposed.

Yeah, go ahead and do that.
The ones that really repulse me are the scumbag persuaders who make a living off of lying to the workers and try to convince them how the corporatist are nothing less than honest and have your best interest at heart with everything they do. I guess you know your at the bottom when that's what you have to do for a living. I wonder how much hate for the workers they must have and where it's derived from. You know them they always seem to talk down to the workers as if they know more.

And that is a bad thing? Do you also in your household budget try to control costs? Of course you do.

It would be so sweet if all we had to do was hook and drive. And had cut off times. Please oh, PLEASE ! Let's start running this business like the rest of the freight world. Can you imagine if you had dock hands loading the lanes ? No more senior guys flooring out his and leaving early with the dock a mess and the lane over a trailer or two ? Can you even think of how much money is wasted in via miles and fuel covering bad behavior ?

Yep. Here we are in October now, surprise, I don't think any sterling in our yard has them 22.5" tires. I know most have gone into a PM since this thread started. Yet drivers rolling out with them tall tires and new pups. Maybe they just waiting till them new tires roll out.
