I will take spending time with my family, being home for holidays and seeing my niece and nephew grow up over anything that ABF and YRC offer. Would I like to have some of the things that union companies offer? Of course I would. But I'm also willing to sacrifice those for what I consider a better quality of life. I'm happy working at Estes which is something I can't say I was while I was working at ABF.

There's no right answer in the union vs non debate. You just have to do what you feel is best for you.

As for new rumors I've been told that Markham will be staying open after Joliet opens and will change from an EOL to a hub.

The choices you make sometimes are not felt till years later. Then it is a question of did I get lucky? I know I have never been able to get my crystal ball working. von.

I still have a long ways(30+years) to go until I'll be ready to retire. Either way there's a lot of uncertainty in this industry as a whole.

I haven't seen the outcome of the bids since I don't have to go in until tomorrow night. I should be able to keep the bid that I'm currently on as it's a shorter run and requires working the dock.

Screw the rebids this year I I know of some guys that had the runs they were on pulled like Bloomington, Rockford, Chicago some other smaller barns they have no where to go but extra board. They start up a Markham as a hub , so South Bend will take a hit as well. The guys at smaller barns really feel the impact of these moves. Bottom line it's all about the freight that's it. Who cares who moves it as long as it moves period. ... period period .. sorry about the grammar + 9 beers

That’s ok. I make investments elsewhere. We appreciate your concern for your fellow drivers well being. At the very least Estes hasn’t shut down terminals like some other companies and is financially secure. We aren’t forced to take pay cuts in recessions and accept bogus contracts. Btw 401k is 7%.

Who told you that? We get Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Years Day all paid off. It's been like that for several years now.

Gotta have a little fun. Estes is one of the few companies that want you to spend time with your family. When I worked for sysco we worked New Years Eve and Day. Only holiday they gave off was Christmas and thanksgiving.

I would rather be poor than join a union that supports groups that are communist and hate God and America. Sometimes I come on here and express concerns or ask questions or even say a good thing or two. Estes does not need a union! My family is blessed and I am glad to have a job here, no matter how grumpy I look.

I worked for PFG for 2 years. 1 year as a driver and another year as a supervisor. I've never worked so hard in my life as I did those 2 years. Every time I get aggravated at this place I try to remember those times and things just never seem so bad.
