FedEx Freight | New Tractor speeds

Exactly, I'm in a 18xxx Pete , my run was moved up 45 minutes in order to get the YNGs freight back. Then they put me in this truck to take a half hour back. GO FIGURE.
Get use to it , I was told after 30 years experience I needed to relearn to drive.
This is what happens when cube rats make decisions that only effect us.

UPS just got a memo sent out and passed recently because a lot of drivers were complaining about being stuck out in the hammer lane. So guess what, there trucks will top out at 73 instead of 70. Had one pass me on 270 going across the river headed towards their Earth City,Mo facility and he was doing every bit of that 73.

And FMCSA has proposed speed limiters which will slow every truck in America to a top speed of 65. Meanwhile fedex has already told us CA drivers our trucks will be limited to 57 on legs inside the state. And yes, if you're domiciled outside CA, your tractor will slow to 57 when you cross the border.

Talk about a traffic jam/rolling road block!! What's next, restricting all trucks to the right lane?? That's what it'll come to out here on the east coast where most interstates are two lanes, especially after some congressman gets held up by two trucks drag racing at 65mph!!

I just want to know if you drive one of these new Pete's , how do you drive it without getting pissed off at it. This little software program so it doesn't climb stays at 63 mph ,every company truck below it blows by you, half hour added to your day because it can't climb a hill , no manual side or very little. Your not going to out shift it.
Just a shame I stay mad at a truck all day long. All Fedex says you need to learn how to drive again.
So enjoy your old truck as long as you can, because you will hate a new one

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but up in my neck of the woods this has been a reality since 2008. The provinces of Ontario and Quebec mandated 65mph speed limits on all trucks operating within both provinces. The DOT is permitted to check using diagnostic tools to ensure it's set. This law applies to ALL class 8 trucks, regardless of place of origin.

And the other provinces are under pressure to do the same. The only reason they haven't bothered is because long combination vehicles (a growing popular trend in the increasingly dry drivers' market up here) are limited to 55-60mph, rendering the average truck limited to at least 65.

It's not all bad news though. The rolling roadblock effect hasn't happened really because weights vary so much up here. GCWR can be 120000lbs if you've got enough axles.

I fully understand coming from the Socialist Republic of Canada!! :poke:
Most company trucks down here are already governed at 65 anyways, mainly only the shiny wheels (O/O) can do what's on the speedo....and most of those guys can't handle that much power, it goes to their heads!!

I also agree that with the various weights, my "rolling road blocks" comment was a stretch (unless JB or Swift are running empty). What I do find interesting is that my million mile, manual Volvo will out pull almost anything on the road, unless those shiny wheels are just conserving fuel. To bad we've went to auto-shifts!!

got out of a Volvo for the last three years,Cummings never used a drop of oil,,the new KW 1.5 to 2 gal a week i ask around, normal on the new ones how is 70 to 90 gal a year normal on the new ones? sucks
I had that problem also only was using 1 gal every other day eventually it stopped up the after treatment, after numerous times in shop and countless pleas they finally got it fixed, ran good and pulled decent, then I lose it on the new bid,

I agree, unfortunately not too many people use this courtesy move.

I try this about 3 times a night. Our tractors are supposed to be 65 but are closer to 63 then they are 65. I seem to get the guys doing 65 getting right on my tail then staying there for what seems like an eternity. I'll let out of it and slow to about 60 before they figure it out that there is a whole other lane they could use. I-80 is not that congested at 2am.

Yes, sometimes a tap on the brake or even going a little slower helps. I run a radio too and will let them know so I don't "hold them up".

What infuriates me is when one of our own does it, yea I wanted to listen to that incessant beeping behind another FXF unit. I figure if I see a truck catching up to me or out pulling me on a hill then a little help keeps us from being that rolling road block, no matter the company. I've even pulled off on a ramp then right back on, don't lose much time and it keeps that sensor clear.

Too many "professional" drivers out there have tunnel vision or "smartphone blindness".
