FedEx Freight | No more milage pay for CA?

So basically the People's Republic of California would rather punish productivity while promoting mediocrity...in the name of safety of course!!
Gotta love the left coast!!

Socialism at it's best. What was it that Himmler said? "Socialism is about equal suffering". So is unionization.

I'm certain you were referring to a quote by Winston Churchill, but you attempting to quote a famous (⊙▃⊙), and Red liking the post, doesn't surprise me in the least.

“The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.”

Winston Churchill

When life sucks, it sucks for everyone! Nobody should ever get ahead of anyone else because that wouldn't be fair...except when you're making the calls in the seat of power!

A person who has money should be forced to pay a person who does not. And people wonder why the middle class is shrinking.

I "liked" ST's quote better than yours...or WC's

ಠ▄ಠ suppressed trade unions (along with Communists and Social Democrats) in early 1933. It was a key part of their rise to power. They raided and destroyed offices, liberated printing presses and other hardware and beat or imprisoned members and especially leaders. The SS and their brownshirt stooges rampaged through every trade union office of the Social Democrats, took control of their newspapers and other publications, and seized almost all of their financial assets.

Except for a few placeholder puppets, most real union officials were either killed or removed to the concentration camps. The net effect was to crush any power that the trade unions had so the (⊙▃⊙)'s could use the shell of what remained for their own propaganda purposes.

"The new section does two things. First, it clarifies and settles the pay requirements for mandated rest and recovery breaks and other nonproductive time going forward. " sounds like people will now be paid whilest siting on there arses.

You always comment on things you have never personally dealt with. Not every driver can work at an LTL company so some have to take the crappy jobs. There are drivers in calif. ( and elsewhere ) that spend their whole day waiting at the port and sitting in traffic that are paid by percentage. No drops, hooks or delay pay. So as you can imagine they run around like mad men trying to make up for lost time.Imagine spending 12 hours a day and making less than 100 dollars. Believe it not it happens everyday. Fedex ( and the other companies ) do not have to pay by the hour but they have to pay for all time on duty. I guess they feel that straight hourly will simplify it for them. The law states you have to figure out the drivers entire work week ( including break times ) then break it down ( and detail it on their pay stub ) and make sure each driver is making at least calif. minimum wage. You know $500.00 divided by 65 hrs = $7.69 oops violation. Looks to me like calif is trying to help some truck drivers out a little and also hoping that they may slow them down a little as a result.Try driving every day in a 55 mph state. 55mph $.65 = $35.75 and 65mph $.65= $42.25. $6.50 per hour difference. Now how fast would you drive ? Lots of speeding trucks in calif. I hope it works out for them.

I used to speed in California; especially outside of the urban areas. We used to change C.B. channels depending on what part of the state we were in to get Bear reports. I think it's a good thing they're doing. As far as Red, he's always commenting on things he has no clue about. He doesn't have a diverse background, or the ability to empathize.

Therein lies the problem...if people would quit doing the "crappy jobs", companies would have two choices...pay a decent wage for those services or go out of business...it's called supply and demand!!
The bigger question is why Cali is still at 55mph?

I've drove many a mile in Cali, it's a beautiful state, and we ran hammer down every chance we got...but that was back in the early 90's.
Diverse background?? I've done everything from bagging groceries to building houses, from working the fields to driving a truck...unlike most truck drivers, I'm very well rounded, except in the waistline!!
Empathy...I've been in those shoes, I just found another industry to work in.

Exactly...that's what made it ST's quote, and it's still better than yours!!

I like this quote:

"I am opposing a social order in which it is possible for one man who does absolutely nothing that is useful to amass a fortune of hundreds of millions of dollars, while millions of men and women who work all the days of their lives secure barely enough for a wretched existence."

Eugene V. Debs
