ABF | Not an easy answer

Bwaahaaaahaa! Keep telling yourself that. When the company can pay someone $5 per hour less with no bennys and only have to give them a 4 hour guarantee, you will see how fast the standards will lower!

Bull. When the customer leaves because of damaged freight, those stand start to come back up.

Keep dreaming sock puppet. Its all about cheap labor. They will live with the claims and pay the salemen to try and clear it up.

Wait till ABF workers lose their pensions, and start paying 200$ - 250$ out of their weekly pay to keep their jobs. Thats when the boss man will start to crack the whip and expect you to work harder for Less money. And your BA will be no where to be found. Thats when OSD claims will spike cause no one will give a s**t at that point. YRC and ABF will be the same company one day soon. And when you show up at the hall to complain you will be told you can always go work some where else if your not happy. Good luck

Oh ok, so Samsung don't care how their product is treated, long as its moved at rock bottom rates. They'll just keep using ABF right?

Wont matter to ABF. It was moved cheaper and thats what counts. We have part timers and haul samsung. Big deal. If it wasnt about making labor cheaper, why havent you signed a contract yet?

Its not about what ABF thinks or wants. Its about what yhe costumer wants.
Samsung will use another company if ABF can't take care of the freight.

Saying cheap labor and cheapER labor are two different things.

Mr salesman will tell the customer sorry and knock a percentage off the FSC. The claims will be paid and everyone will be happy again. And the 18 year old who couldnt pick out a forklift in a lineup will continue to "work" the freight. ABF isn't any different from the other companies in this industry. But thats what sock puppets like you want. Rock bottom wages and no bennys for the working man so the top can get more of their share. This should appeal to you

My goodness you're clueless. After so many claims paid back to the customer, the customer will say after a certain point enough is enough. The customer is in the business of selling their product, not in the business of collecting claims.
They want their product on the store shelf, not in the garbage.

You keep going back to what ABF wants. I'm telling you it doesn't matter what ABF wants, the market will decide how low they can pay. And if they want to stay in business and make a profit, then they can never pay rock bottom wages.

I respect what you are saying, but the phrase part timers scares the crap out of me, Seems once it is in place companies just abuse the heck out of it. I always thought that's what casuals were for. If its like everything else, we are told that they won't abuse it or use it against anybody, Kind of reminds me of the seat belt law. They said it is no big deal, and to start with they would not write any tickets for not wearing a seat belt, but once it was in effect, it became a major infraction, and quite a money maker.

I have a hard time trusting I have seen it to many times, they say one thing, but do the opposite, once it is place. I know another union company that has part timers, and they lay off drivers just to make them into part timers. If part timers are to used they should only be only used if no one is laid off (everybody must be called back to work), and there should be penalties if they work to many part timers, or they work over a percentage of hours, which should trigger the company to hire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I work for ups freight, and they abuse thhe hell out of hiring part-timers, and not to jump off topic, but they also abuse the hell out of sub contractors running our freigght

And ABF will lose the customer. They would have already made their money off of them. They will then pick up a new account that was tired of the claims from company x. ABF will promise that damages are minimal here and they can trust us. Meanwhile that no experience low wage kid on summer break will still be working the freight. ABF will up the discounts to fill trailers and pay for it with part timers. Just think of pulling into Carlisle and seeing a dock flooded with $15 per hour no benny dock workers! Thats the American dream for people like you.

So your saying ABF is the business of damaging freight to the point of losing customers, then finding another customer to do that to. Really? Are you really trying to sell me on that?
Sorry, you don't stay in business long with that kind of business model.

And they can run his ass out the gate and bring in another one without any recourse. On UE into Atlanta they already have some part-timers that work there, and they do a good job. Cameras everywhere, you better use dunnage and be careful with the stuff or you're going to be watching a video, full time guy's getting a warning letter, part-timer is escorted to the clock alley. Part-timers actually may even be more careful since they really can't grieve not being called, fired by default. I was at YRC too, different culture over here friend.

ABF is in the business of moving a piece of freight from point a to point b as cheap as possible. Damage claims are an expense of doing business. At some point the labor cost of moving the freight outweigh the cost of claims. Part timers brings the cost of labor down to where the claims can and will be absorbed. Salesmen will smooth over the customer. And if that dont work then they will find other freight to replace the lost customer. You really haven't been in this industry very long have you

Stoney, the disgruntled cannot handle that you and I actually enjoy going to work for the most part and understand that a negotiation is just that, A FREAKING NEGOTIATION, and ABF is in a pretty good position to NEGOTIATE, and it's a free country. If you don't like what's NEGOTIATED then you don't have to work here. They are going to get some relief in this contract, but it is a different culture here, one reason is, they AIN'T ABOUT BANKRUPT! I kinda like working for a company that has still got a little money in the bank, decent equipment, cutting edge technology, a safety department that you can actually call if you are given the run around on a safety issue, and a company that actually tries to keep it's commitments to it's customers. And the managers and supervisors here are pretty decent guys and gals considering the bath they took during the recession, they had no vote! Some were shown the door, all that stayed took pay cuts. I know some drivers were laid off, but I think most long timers have been called back. This company is positioning itself to grow as the economy recovers, that is your job security. If there is another downturn YRCW will be toast and ABF will struggle to survive.

My B/A can always be found at the Old Country Buffet. Just like you drive to Drunkin Dognuts when you need a cop.

I beg to differ with you here. One claim can wipe out a mountain of money saved by using cheap labor.

The terminal I run out of I have seen ABF loose accounts to other carriers because they gave them a cheaper rate and later we got the account back because the other carrier was damaging the freight.

You ABF employees seem to have you're mind made up. Reminds me of a bank Fixin to forclose on a homeowner that just lost his job. Your showing no mercy to the company that provides you and your family with highest wages in the industry. From what I understand, one rule change is a road driver to hook and unhook his own set instead his Gettin paid Waitin on somebody to do it for him. And your saying no? That's totally wack! Why bite the hand that feeds you? Get with times and protect your jobs from the Conway and fedexs. Good grief
shut up stupid we are trying to drive here.
