Just like when step daddy rents a tractor, it says operated by United Parcel Service. And the reason is right in front of your eyes. Is that Penske, Ryder or Budget a UPS company truck or color? No. Does it have the appropriate DOT#s? No. Thats the answer.

You can see it on some Estes trucks too.
I don't know the reason but what hugnlug said sounded as good as anything else I've heard.

i think at the beginning of the year, all the trucks were probably licensed in OVNT name. If you completely change the name, you would probably have to relicense all of your trucks

At our service center we are getting new license plates with the UPS logo from the state of Indiana in addition to new decals. Also are getting papers explaining the name change to put in the permit pouch.

Ok, I don't know that's why I asked.

FXF didn't say operated by, at 1st they said American Freightways then in smaller type a FedEx company, but when they decided to go with FedEx Freight they put it on the equipment with no operated by, that's why I questioned it.

Thanks

Simple fact is, if the vehicle is owned by a different entity that is using the vehicle, then a sign saying operated by is required on the vehicle. In this instance, it appears that the vehicles are still registered to Overnite, and until each vehicle becomes the property of UPSF, they will continue to use the operated by signs on them. When my terminal(Big R) rents extra power we put magnetic signs on the doors that say operated by Roadway Express. That is so that tarifs, taxes, and permits are the responsibility of the operating entity.

All the decals that they put over the OVNT logo has the same ICC numbers on them.

We had that one week dot inspection in PA a week ago or so. One of our drivers got pulled over . The dot officer thought he was moonlighting working for Big O and UPS. He told him you have a UPS uniform on but nothing on the equipment says UPSF. He had no clue UPS bought Big O. He got a hit because now on our log books we have to crossout OVNT and write UPS Ground Freight. Just giving you guys a heads up.

All trucks in any company is owned by either it's own corresponding leasing company,.
or by an independant leasing company.

In overnite's case the trucks were operated by "O" but were owned by "O" nite withholdings. which is the mother company for "O"NITE TRANS. This is nothing more than a tax shelter, if you own but rent to yourself you get 100% of your profit back , under a seperate company, and you can put the lease on your P\L Statement at the end of the year on both companies.

If you rented from RYDR. PNSKE, etc. etc. then you have a loss you cannot recover from. Even though you pay out to a leasing company, and you can also put it on your P\L you will never recover monies from 2 entaties as 1 company.:duh: :duh:

My new jobclass is "Freight Redundancy Specialist".

This Person will have the ability
to tolerate mentally challenged dispatchers
who excell in the art of ignorance redundancy,
and can withstand driving 18 wheelers at
top end speeds in circles.

Damn, you come up with that all by yourself.(LOL) Big statement for a truck driver.

But if they spent 1.25 billion dollars, did that not encompass all that both company owned?

It costs a lot of money to reregister all the vehicles. My guess is that it is easier to spread out the cost by changing each vehicle when the registration expires and getting full benefit of the reggie costs already spent.

Right on...But if it is bought and paid for is it not their vehicle? I agree you have to utilize all the money you can and using up permits and such is the smart way to go.
