"With $15 billion in revenue last year – roughly $9 billion for transportation and $6 billion for logistics – XPO now is the largest last-mile provider of heavy goods and the second-largest contract logistics provider worldwide."

"In 2017, XPO Logistics’ last-mile network handled 13 million deliveries, the majority of which were heavy goods such as appliances, exercise equipment, electronics and furniture. With 66 last-mile hubs and plans to expand to 85 before yearend 2018, XPO expects to make its last-mile solution available to 95 percent of the U.S. population."

In case you were wondering why we simply have to compete in this portion of the market... It's just too big to ignore.
Agreed...but are you really interested in hand trucking a washer and dryer or a fridge up a driveway??

I have to believe that is one of last miles biggest selling points. XPO,and others know that many people either do not have access to a truck to bring big items home, plus many are just too lazy to do it,along with not wanting try and assemble things like furniture,or tread mills.... Easier to pay someone else who will also dispose of the packaging it came in. (Convenience)

Lazy?? There is not one lazy person in this country. Just ask Obamer. :101:

Pave Over the Subway? Cities Face Tough Bets on Driverless Cars

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/20/upshot/driverless-cars-vs-transit-spending-cities.html

"Autonomous vehicles that will outperform buses, cost less than Uber and travel faster than cars stuck in traffic today are two years away. Or 10. Or 30.

But visions of the future they’ll bring have already crept into City Council meetings, political campaigns, state legislation and decisions about what cities should build today. That unnerves some transportation planners and transit advocates, who fear unrealistic hopes for driverless cars — and how soon they’ll get here — could lead cities to mortgage the present for something better they haven’t seen."

Analyst: Carriers make ‘aggressive’ driver pay moves in 2018 amid ‘war for drivers’

https://www.ccjdigital.com/analyst-...river-pay-moves-in-2018-amid-war-for-drivers/

"Many carriers have raised pay twice since late fourth quarter 2017, Klemp says, a fact that surprised him. “Everyone is looking for the sweet spot in their market, but it is complicated by the growing difficulty of finding qualified drivers and the quickly shifting driver compensation landscape,” he said in his Q2 NSDW report. Making the situation even more difficult is the need to buy time to adjust freight rates to support pay increases, he says. Assuming the freight rate market remains strong, more than half of carriers Klemp tracks say they may raise pay again this year."

Klemp says this. Klemp says that. Klemp did not name any carrier by name, or what they pay.. I think Klemp is full of it...

"Fake news if I ever heard it"
No respectable truck driver could ever come up with a tale like this!

EEOC alleges Werner refused to hire driver for being deaf

https://www.ccjdigital.com/eeoc-all...a3c973&utm_term=newsletter-2-daily-position-3

"According to a press release from EEOC detailing the charges, Werner allegedly told Andrew Deuschle they could not hire deaf people as truckers, despite the fact that he had graduated from truck driving school, received his CDL and had a medical waiver from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration exempting him from the hearing portion of the DOT physical. The lawsuit also alleges Werner illegally made disability-related inquiries in its employment application."

Coop would hire him. Being blind is the only disqualifier. Donna ordered an automatic Hotel for a new hire who is missing a left leg and a right arm.....
