The future of electric vehicles lie in the sourcing of lithium and cobalt for batteries

https://www.freightwaves.com/news/t...-sourcing-of-lithium-and-cobalt-for-batteries

"Though the situation of a few companies controlling global lithium supply sounds a bit ominous, the story of cobalt gets a lot worse. Unlike lithium, cobalt reserves are concentrated in a tiny stretch of land - the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), a country that has been marred with civil tensions and a place where modern slavery and human rights violations are an everyday occurrence. More than 65% of the world’s cobalt supply comes from the country, forcing companies to be complicit to the tragedies unfolding in the mines."

"The Kansas district court ruled policy contained in the Georgia-based parcel delivery company’s collective bargaining agreement with the Teamsters, violated the Americans with Disabilities Act. She also permanently enjoined the union and company from negotiating and ratifying contracts that discriminate because of disability.

UPS Freight did not immediately response to a request for comment."

200-truck private fleet asks FMCSA for 14 daily hours for short-haul drivers

https://www.ccjdigital.com/200-truc...a3c973&utm_term=newsletter-2-daily-position-4

"Allied, in its application, asks the agency to allow its drivers who utilize the short-haul logbook exemption to be able to return to their work-reporting location within 14 hours instead of 12, as required by hours of service regulations.

The company requests its beverage truck drivers be treated the same as ready-mix concrete drivers, who are allowed to report back to their work-reporting location within 14 consecutive hours without losing their short-haul exemption. Allied says its drivers work on a four-day work week and occasionally work past the 12th hour of duty."

They say highway deaths increase every year? Keep raising the speed limit. Maybe to 90. That should help. Maybe make fines for talking on your phone about $1,000? Am sure that would be a deterrent. But why would they want to have people stay the hell off their phones and pay attention?
