“At this time, the department believes that the current data limitations are so profound that the results cannot accurately be extrapolated to predict national impacts,” Rogoff wrote. “As such, the department believes that no changes in the relevant truck size and weight laws and regulations should be considered until these data limitations are overcome.”

"Upon further investigation of the cargo, the driver and the truck, multiple safety violations were revealed, including opened and improperly secured packages of fireworks, absence of federally required fire extinguisher in the vehicle, the driver not possessing a CDL, a hazardous materials endorsement or a valid medical certificate, no records of safety status, no Hazardous Materials Safety Permit, no hazmat placarding on the vehicle, and an absence of required shipping papers."

"Sen. Bill Cassidy’s (R-La.) legislation would completely do away with the renewable fuel standard, which first took effect in 2005 and now requires increasing levels of ethanol and biodiesel to be put into traditional fossil fuels.

“Workers, refiners, producers, farmers and ranchers across the country are affected by the renewable fuel standard,” Cassidy said in a statement. “More mandates mean less jobs. It means families are paying more for gas and groceries.”"

One is drivers, two is drivers and three is drivers,” he said. The other two are long-term highway funding and ongoing regulatory issues in the pipeline.”

“There are major LTL carriers who have hired driver recruiters, and they haven’t had to do that before,” Osiecki noted. The shortage “is acute in the OTR sector, but it’s spreading.”

"A Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration rule that would allow FMCSA to assign absolute safety scores to carriers has been sent from the DOT’s trucking regulatory agency to the White House’s Office of Management and Budget for approval. The rule has been in the works since 2007.

The OMB legally has 90 days to clear rules once it has received them."
