Man, all I know is only one of these soft drinks is available Up North. So I can't really objectively compare. I know I've only drank Dew.

And I prefer Barq's Root Beer, personally.

"Yet recruiting immigrants to be drivers appears to be a successful tactic, despite trucking's reluctance to discuss it."

"Where do the immigrant drivers come from? "The top five are Mexico, El Salvador, Cuba, India, and Guatemala," Lowry noted. "Eastern European countries like Poland and Ukraine are next and then it drops off quickly: Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Bosnia, Honduras, Columbia, Russia, and China."

The largest group -- representing 32% of immigrant truck drivers – is from Mexico."

Labor secretary says change to overtime rule is needed

"...Acosta telling a House subcommittee the overtime threshold for salaried employees needs adjusting.

That change will affect some dispatchers and other back-office personnel at trucking companies, though drivers and technicians are generally exempt from the rule.

At issue is a proposal from the Obama administration that would have raised the threshold for overtime-exempt employees to $47,476 annually for full-time employees from $23,660.

"...He previously suggested a threshold around the $33,000 level, a figure likely to make both business and labor groups unhappy."

And I wonder how many of the 224,000 immigrants actually took a CDL test themselves, and not had someone else sit in for them, and how many bought theirs????

"The 12 regulations the agency is considering eliminating include three Interstate Commerce Commission “remnant” regulations, related to carrier routing requirements, loss and damage cargo claims and a preservation requirement for certain records.

Other regulations under consideration include a noise emissions standard; a requirement for roughly 300 carriers to provide financial statements to the agency; some cooperating agreements with states; a driver qualification reg that has become outdated since commercial driver licenses and medical certificates can now be accessed electronically; and a time card exception for changing workdays from 12 to 14 hours for certain drivers."

UPS to Charge More During Black Friday, Christmas Delivery Surge

Read more at: http://www.ttnews.com/articles/base...utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=newsletter

"A fee of 27 cents a package will be levied on deliveries by the residential ground network on certain weeks in November and December, UPS said in a statement June 19. Parcels sent to homes using next-day air will see an additional charge of 81 cents in the week ending Dec. 23, while shipments through the deferred network will incur a per-package fee of 97 cents."

' “It’s about having the customers who generate those extra costs pay for it,” said Satish Jindel, founder of SJ Consulting Group in Sewickley, Pa. He said FedEx Corp. is likely to follow suit on peak-season fees.'

"..."The biggest shippers make their own contracts with Atlanta-based UPS and wouldn’t necessarily pay the peak surcharge, but everyone else can get around it by avoiding the busiest period, Jindel said."

"Cauley indicated in reports that he inspected some of the trucks with another trooper when he actually inspected them alone, court records show. He also claimed in reports that some of the inspections were done roadside when they actually occurred at one of the trucking businesses, according to court records.

Court records did not name the two trucking companies involved but they included the addresses. Both businesses are on the 4000 block of Duncanville Road. The owner was mentioned by his initials, O.C. He has not been charged with a crime, according to available records."

I nominate Big Dave, for providing shade while on his breaks, for travelers with his hat at rest areas on I-5 that have no shelters.

And I also nominate BillyLo, for using his break time on his route stopping at truck stops and showing fellow drivers how to properly text while driving, while eating KFC....
