Nissan workers vote against union in Mississippi

http://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/2017/08/05/nissan-workers-vote-against-union-in-mississippi.html

"Workers at a Nissan assembly plant in Mississippi have voted against forming a union, adding to decades of futility by United Auto Workers organizers at foreign-owned auto plants in the American South."

"Representatives of Nissan Motor Co. and the UAW said late Friday that 2,244 workers, or 62 percent, voted against the UAW, while 1,307, or 38 percent, favored the union."

Agreed, but the potential savings of time envisions the driver pulling up to the fuel island line, going off duty and not dealing with the fueling/parking task. Still, for there to even be any potential savings, the driver would have to be consistently bumping up against the maximum hours limit. I don't want to be that driver...
:452:
That assumes you're stopping for the night at a truck stop you can get fuel at, which isn't always possible.

Online Sales Growth Fuels Surge in Package-Delivery Jobs
Payrolls hit a new high in July

"The hiring surge at package-delivery firms pushed payrolls there to a new high in July as companies geared up to handle the continued growth in online sales.

Courier and messenger companies added 3,200 jobs last month, the fourth straight monthly increase, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said in its July jobs reportreleased Friday. Total employment at delivery firms reached 669,200, up from the previous high of 668,000 in December 2016 in a sector that has benefited from shifting consumer trends toward e-commerce and away from stores."

Nissan has also announced they will start production on a new compact designed especially for Big Dave, and having his dispatching skills, and chicken coop office in mind.

Customers 'furious' with TNT after cyber-attack meltdown

http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-40861982

"Businesses in Ukraine were hit hardest, and since many TNT operations and communications are based in the country, a significant proportion of its systems were infiltrated and data encrypted - locking employees out - as a result.

"Manual processes" are still being used to put packages through the system, and TNT says it is "reasonably possible" that some information will never be fully recovered.

The BBC has spoken to several customers who have had exasperating experiences with the courier, which is owned by FedEx.

Small businesses have been affected too - some say they have lost thousands of pounds because of missing or waylaid shipments.

And a source close to FedEx and TNT operations in Europe has told the BBC that depots have been pushed to their limit while both companies continue to try to get the backlog of packages under control."

So they'll take 270,000 jobs and add 1,500...and try and sell it as progress... Only in America (and sometimes Canada)
They think they're brilliant, of course. And they're also wrong. Building a rail hub just gives them a place to hold onto freight. There's still not enough capacity on the rail lines themselves to actually move that additional volume, which means that their figure of a quarter million plus trucks a year is an absolute joke.

They might steal a few loads from trucks, but the railroad can't match our service time. And just-in-time service is very important today. The railroad is worse than YRC for that. Need it tomorrow? We'll get it done in a week...maybe two. And it's not our fault if our cranes destroy your freight by dropping the container or trailer. But hey! We're cheaper than the guys who will get there on time!

Preventable or not? Hard braking for deer spells trouble

http://www.ccjdigital.com/preventable-or-not-hard-braking-for-deer-spells-trouble/?utm_source=daily&utm_medium=email&utm_content=08-09-2017&utm_campaign=Commercial Carrier Journal&ust_id=124f9551466b2c5785e539d1cda3c973&utm_term=newsletter-2-daily-position-3

"A trucker in front of John Doe panic-stopped to avoid a deer, so Doe also hit the brakes hard, causing a tied-down drum to break free and damage his trailer’s interior. Was this a preventable accident?"
After further review, BRG Patel Investigators LLC, conclude a heavy rope not to be a sufficient DOT tie down device on a steel drum, and if he was at a 7-8 second following distance, would in fact have had time to stop safely.. Charge em!!!!

CF, You may need to do a little rethinking.
Rumor has it, BNSF has made Team Wong- BRG an offer with only a 12% pay reduction, they will be piloting the new "Golden Flyer", a 500 car fast freight with guarnteed over night delivery from shaky to Bangor Me.
Their new motto "If your freight can't wait, and it's late, have no fear, you get free popcorn for a year"
So far, Hat Dispatch LLC has not made a counter offer.
Also CSX says they will not be eliminating 270000 jobs, by the time we get this up and running, they will be the computer driven jobs anyway, duh

Hope that 12% offer from BNSF will not be a stumbling block.
Free popcorn on late deliveries will also be a hard act to follow
