How many drivers have noticed the large amount of parcel freight being shipped as ltl freight?
How many times have you heard,"this uaually comes UPS"? Or, The little brown trucks can make it in my driveway?
I thought the would be oversee'rs were not going to let this happen.
Your thoughts.

I'd be more worried about the Feeder drivers pulling your line haul freight. Seems the plan is to have Sleeper team driver start pulling some of this line haul freight that they are giving to other carriers like West Texas Express and a hand full of Owner/Operators.
Seen it myslef, West Texas Express pulling two Overnite trailer going south on I-81 coming out of Harrisburg PA. Talked to him on the radio said he was going to Dallas.
Seen several O/O in the Memphis area but they wouldn't talk.
ICC/Intermodel (UPS's fancy name for central dispatch) in Louisville KY held a big meeting Wednesday morning. UPS top brass along with UPSF top brass. I know this for a fact becuase my two loads for NJ were accidently given to another team in Mesquite and we didn't have freight to go back. Terry, the Feeder ops guy in Mestx had to call Ed the ICC boss to authorize my team to pull loads for Chelmsford Mass. They needed to pull them off the rail in Mestx. I sat it on a speaker phone conversation and the idea of sending us to Little Rock to pull two freight boxes was disgusted. However it was squashed. This conversation included several other bosses in the meeting.

Seems that to meet service Sleeper teams are pulling partial loads or occasionals empties. The meeting was to decide how to move UPSF more effeicintly via the Fast Lane system (Sleeper teams).

Don't be surprised when I post a picture of my tractor with two Overnite trailers.

I'm not worried about a few boxes on your wagons, besides how long will it take you to deliver 110 stops with a peddle wagon..... LOL.

It's logistically impossible for UPS (package) to meet service with your operation, you are a freight company not a parcel company remember that, so go ahead and fan the flames, I use a blowtorch when I start a fire.

Pull that line haul fgt, I'd rather see you get it than Land Span, a FedX company. We're all ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY now. And I'll keep the little 2lb.ers that you cant haul.

That fast lane sleeper team sounds good at UPGF. If UPGF could reduce their service times it would make other freight company's scramble to keep up. I will team with you pick me up at sixty six & eighty first streets.

I go by X 300 around 1230 ish, be in the south bound breakdown with "work for food" sign and I'll pick you up.

any of you guys think that upsf line haul will supplement the feeder work during the xmas season
ups currently utilizes owner ops / contracters for this
why not keep the money in the other pocket instead of giving it away

It won't happen. UPGF needs all the drivers it has now they are short drivers system wide.

I work out of one of the smaller terminals.

We just had a P & D driver transfer to a terminal in South Carolina.
A newbee P & D driver started this last Friday.
I hear theres two more drivers waiting to be put on shortly.

Right after the the launch date it seemed like buisness started dropping off,but in the last month it seems to be making a come back.

As Skeeter says,time will tell.

Twenty years in freight, I saw it slow down every April or May and start back up again in August for the Xmas rush. Nothing new, don't read into it more than there is to read.

Well I know for a fact that UPS cut low pay accounts.

I saw some of our customers go because sales said UPS looked at our customers, and what they were paying, than re-wrote what we should be getting.
Some customers said forget it we'll get some one else to haul our freight.

I've seen some of the lost freight come back but not all of it.

I didn't mind seeing the inside delivery shopping mall stores go to other carriers.
No sir I wouldn't mind seeing all of them go away.

My route would be a lot easier without a shopping mall I have to service.
The walking distance is one mile end to end.

Although I do feel for the regular UPS package guys that deliver off a loaded straight truck there every day.
Around the christmas season I see two,or three of their trucks.

And yes sir these guys are earning their $27.00 per hour.

I had to double park my unit in the busiest section of downtown to go inside a building, take the elevator to the 4 floor to deliver 3 ots less than 70 lbs.

Now tell me that makes sense.

Leave the packages on the package cars and the freight on the freight trucks, pretty simple right.

Go ahead pull out LTL trailers. Keep it all in the family. We won't cry like teamsters. :puke:

Skeeter... what is stopping them from doing your job? nothing. what is stopping you from doing their job? their contract. wate and see time will tell.

I bet your happy to be paid by the hour, and not by the package.

You know I've posted this before, but its still sending me up the wall.
We are now into our 4th month from the launch date.
Our customers are still way clueless that we have nothing to do with UPS parcel.

I called this guy before leaving the terminal I had 2 skids of electrical supplies at over 1000 lbs.
The address was a street with only houses on it.
I asked him if he wanted his stuff to be delivered to his house?

He says well yes.

It wasn't only 5 miles out,so I stagged both skids on the tail.
I pull up in front of the house, walk to the front door, and ring the bell.

In the mean time the man from the house next door is taking pictures of me,and my big rig.

The customers wife comes out going totaly ballistic on me saying this delivery was supposed to be delivered by UPS.

I'm standing right in front of her,UPS brand on my cap,and shirt also a sign on my tractor door, and shes flipping out on me.

She calls her hubby, and hands me the phone.
He says can you deliver this shippment to his job site?
I ask where?
He tells me a town thats about 25 miles to the east of where I was.
I said thats why I called you from the terminal.
He says oh well you said it was coming UPS.
I said I told you UPS heavy Freight division.

Than he says put it in the garage.
I called the TM he said as long as your there just get it over with.

42 boxes,4 boxes a trip on my hand cart.

Needless to say it took awhile.

The very next stop was a store I had a skid with (2) 4x8 sheets of fibber board.

He said just bring it in the front door.

I said I need help, they weigh over 100 lbs each.

He says my regular UPS guy always brings everything in by himself.

I'm telling you doesn't he see the difference in my uniform, and a tractor with a 48 foot trailer compared to his guy,and his little package van?

I said give me help,or it goes back to the terminal and you can figure out some other way to get it here.

I got help.

But thats just 2 of many horror stories I've been through on a daily basis since we became UPS Freight drivers.

Calling all UPS sales people if any of you are on this truckingboard.
Help these customers to get a clue that we don't have anything to do with the parcel division.
We are HEAVY,HEAVY FREIGHT,not package drivers.

I have heard it ,seen it, Done it. It will only come to this eventually, or atleast until we get busy enough so we cannot do it anymore, Be cautious UPS has not opened the flood gates yet.

It makes absolutely no scence at all but unfortunatly we have been doing this sort of thing for the eight years i have been with "O". Only now it's becoming more frequent since the buyout.
