Just checking in, I'm currently a line driver with Reddaway and just curious about extra board here on the west coast. I'm currently in Reno, NV if that helps. Any info on the area would be great. I know about the pay and figure I'd be running 5 days which is no big deal.

I currently run anything from a turn to a layover run and back. I usually sit a day or 2 a week lately so I'm thinking this winter is going to be worse. I have free Healthcare currently so just seeing if jumping ship would be a good move. Seems like you guys like Estes and I've heard pretty good things.
Thanks for the help.

I'm pretty familiar with that area. Ran it for a few years. First off, no other LTL companies offer free medical except Saia, but after 10years. We get yearly raises. Being out of Reno u won't get any delay pay. But I'm pretty sure u don't manage your finances based on wait time. Reno could use more new trucks but TM doesnt push hard for it. Yard is small and can get frustrating to move around when it's packed. Maybe one day they'll kick YRC out and we can move in(doubtful). When it's busy you'll be out up to 5days. when it's not you'll be at the diamonds casino . Aside from that, Reno is very payed back. Do your job and life is great. Actually LH here's is pretty layed back across the board. It's the city boys that get treated like boot camp.

Thanks for the info, I really do appreciate it. What are the average miles per week most line drivers are running?

Couldn't tell u for sure. You'll be on xtraboard.
Could be anywhere from 1800-3500miles. Don't get discourage if u sit at home. It's the nature of the beast. Learn to work the system. If your the kinda guy who wants to go home after 1 trip, your not gonna make any money. Spend the Xtra time at the hotel, stay out. Be cool with CD and they'll be cool with u, although a few are idiots. Make sure u get a CA compliant truck.

That sounds fine by me, I try to get Reddaway to let me run but we do a lot of layovers just run lay down and back to home terminal. Then I might be off for a few days at a time depending on how much work we have. I have had up to 2 weeks not working during the summer so I figured Estes would keep me a bit more busy even if it is slow. Especially during the winter.

Pat called me and said it would be a Monday out so I'd be back Friday night or Saturday morning. Seems better than what I have going on here. I mainly just hate waiting by the phone always on call. I rather have at least 1 or 2 days off guaranteed rather than home all the time not knowing if I'm working or not. I can't plan or do anything.

I know every job has its pluses and minuses and nothing is ever perfect. I rather be with a laid back company because that's just how I am. Reddaway is really laid back, I just wish the pay was on par with everyone else. YRC seems to have really hurt a good company.

I hear u brother. Well cmon over. i hear good things from OD over there as well. Only thing about OD I don't like is being on call for the holidays, even if u have a bid run. Do what's best for u and your family. You'll have a faster truck over here too lol.

Can anyone she'd some light on linehaul from Memphis? Starting pay days out how busy ect? I'll probably be looking into it this coming week.

Starting in Memphis you'll be a Thursday start. Thursday night thru Tuesday morning. Memphis is a big terminal so you should stay busy.

Yrc hurts everything they touch.

How is it that you are sitting? I see more Reddaway doubles/triples east out of Reno, than any other carrier

Well I never even get to run east. I was number 14 on the extra board, we lost some guys and now I'm number 10. It is completely random and I don't know why I sit but I do know ITS is always in our yard, maybe that has something to do with it. I run to the bay and back or Fresno, sometimes LA or my least favorite Medford for a layover. I have only gone to Vegas and Salt Lake 1 time each in 4 months. Boise also 1 time. Otherwise it is all California.

Heard they won't let Eastern based drivers go any farther than Denver. Hell if they want to stay out what's the problem unless freight is slow out of Reno or Vegas.

I ran extraboard late last year. Every time I'd get to Denver I'd tell them I wanted to stay out and I wanted to go to SLC. Had no problem staying west then. I'm domiciled in an east terminal.
