R.I.P. Tom Petty , " No I Won't Back Down" , Great Song! A Song To Live By.
I knew very well about 95% of these songs I've posted here. Some of the live clips I've not seen...a friend of mine who made his money off our local music scene for decades says that we come from the era of 'album rock"....when the whole album was known by many...not just one song. And I wore out the grooves on some of these records....and although I haven't heard them for years....it is awesome hearing them again and the words come back quickly to memory.
Maybe I can say something similar to Supercourse's post which was very good earlier...but for some reason I think this guy really deserves some real thought before I post....so I post his music..and post more and more and more.....
An old cover from 1964.
Here's Eddie Vedder hitting it just right...excellent job.
40 years ago...1977
14 days ago....his very last song live.
And here is the video for your awesome live version.....that is used at the end of your clip.
Watching this, in hindsight, Tom was looking awfully weak, but like his great songwriting, he could still weave a good story.
His Greatest Hits just hit number 2 on Billboard! Cool!
As usual with people like him and Johnny Cash or Bruce Springsteen or Neil Young(my favorites less Ronnie van Zandt and Roger waters and the Stones and Dead) that clip was a real treat to watch....and he seems a bit out of it.
Here's something I just found out since his death..I knew he smoked pot and stuff but...this heroin addiction was kept hidden and as wanted it kept that way so that kids wouldn't glorify it like they have and do.
