XPO | Selling truckload

The funny part about us owning a truckload carrier is we hardly used them to haul our long boxes. Their rates were too high.

Makes you wonder what this Jacobs guy is doing thinking it will work for him. But maybe we will just pull this freight and make money doing it. Should be interesting to see how this shakes out.

Maybe this is the reason he bought the Con-Way's.
Someone who is actually capable of looking forward instead of the clown act we had running this place for the past 10+ years.
RIP Dougie. You steaming P O S !!

If you think even for 1 second the governent would let the any one of the Class 1 railroads shut down for even a single day you are dead wrong. I worked many years responding to railroad emergencies it is unbelievable the legnths state and federal government will go to to ensure even a single rail line is back up and running as soon as possible after a incident. It is absolutely insanity to believe any branch of governent would allow this kind of massive shut down of rail traffic!

Conway already went down this road.... for a cheaper service.... if you remember right it was called Conway deferred.... and they got rid of that as not many used it.

Yep. The problem was that once you build this network to move freight as quickly as possible, trying to drop a bunch of cheaper, slower freight into it doesn't work. Making freight sit because it can't be delivered yet is stupid.

I think the idea is to massively increase the amount of freight moving through the system, in which case tiering it makes sense.

Of course, if massively increasing the amount of freight was easy/possible, it would have been done before.

XPO seems bent on trying everything Con-way experimented with and found out didn't work. They've been talking a lot about using intermodal to carry freight for long hauls...sounds attractive until you realize the damage rate goes up 300%.

If they can do better hauling outside freight, we do better as a company. Why would we tie them up when we can get carriers to bid low prices and compete to get our business?

Look at what Reagan did with the air traffic controllers in the '80s. Mass transit of any form will not be allowed to shut down.

It has been done before. Remember "True LTL" ?? That was a flop, as well.
