Do you know if OD will pay for any of the alternative treatments out there other than the hose?

My employer pays for everything and encourages all our drivers to get screened and tested for this if you think you have a problem and everybody that i have talked to here says they are better off using the machine to help them sleep and be rested for the next work day if i hadnt lost 45 lbs i know one would have been in my truck at night get tested for your family and yourself God bless

No company makes the driver do anything that he or she feels unsafe about..Its that driver who makes that decision.Just saying.

Southeastern started covering all expenses as well. When they first rolled it out they offered a $250 bonus to any driver who voluntarily took a sleep study at no cost to the driver.

They pay for machines, hoses, etc. The problem is now it's all electronic. If you aren't using the machine it tells on you and you can't drive until you've had so many hours on it for the month.

At the expense of his job. Just sayin'.
I hate that "just saying" crap the kids use these days. And please spare me the "if he's fired he can sue" argument. We both know that isn't an option with at will employees.

And what is your responsibility to do on your 10 hours off?? Rest..If you are not capable of driving after your break then you are the one to make the call.A company cannot fire you if you have a legitimate reason that you cannot work.If that's a problem you need to find another place to work.

It's the same at all of the non union carriers, companies, etc, even the green and white trucks. I know a driver from Old Dominion who had an illness and took his twelve weeks FMLA. As soon as that was up he received his termination lettter in the mail.

He's my father in law and former coworker. I was with Old Dominion until 2008 when I was laid off. It was the first layoffs in their history. My father-in-law had a stroke and they only gave him three months and terminated him.

It's one of the reasons I didn't go back when they offered to rehire me after their economic termination.

Hate to hear. But, People forget that the medical leave on holds your job for 12 weeks by law.So anything after that the company can do what's best for them.Hope your father recovered fully and was able find another job.

Still want to get yourself checked if you have any signs at all. It can seriously save your life.

Remember Twiggy? If you are as skinny as her, you will fail. These tests are designed to fail you. Even not being over weight they will fail you. The full test is about 42 test leads hooked to your skin in different areas. Now imagine falling to sleep in a clinic setting with all the equipment hooked up to your body. If you sleep 3 hours you are lucky. Some people need a c-pap machine. Most don't. How in the sam hell did freight get delivered back in the 50's 60' 70's without a sleep study & wearing a mask. It is like Amazon, a monetary juggernaut that can't be stopped. I wonder how many overweight drivers from Mexico have to take the test? Ever know of one from across the border who is over weight & was forced to take the test? Ya believe that and I am gonna find my deed to the bridge in NY NY. von.

I beg to differ Kenneth, I remember this happening , He was forced to run . Might not happen in today's workplace environment, but it sure was common practice to be intimated to work back then. We were told that Con-way needed to be the first priority in our lives. That is a quote from a Service Center Manager.
