Possible job opportunity with Saia in St. Louis and was told until you have a bid run you are system driver. Was wondering if system drivers based out of St. Louis make it back home each day with occasional stay out run or other way around, gone more than at home during week? Was told since St. Louis was in a high travel lane most system drivers make it home everyday but they can't guarantee it. Just wondering if anyone can give me some info on this.

If you take the job be prepared to stay out all week. That being said you will probably be out two / three days week. Just expect the worst on some weeks.....( Leaving on Sunday night not getting home until Saturday morning)

When I was in the system I would pack a bag on monday with 4 changes of clothes and canned food and snacks. I usually wouldn't be gone all week but I would be prepared if I did. Staying in the hotel twice a week would be average. Logistically, STL is in a great location for linehaul drivers, because it is a 500-600+ mile turn from Kansas City, Chicago, Memphis, Indy, Cedar Rapids, Des Moines etc.. STL has a lot of scheduled turns going to those terminals. Starting out you may be filling in on those runs, or getting a short bid (a shorter run like springfield.. or bloomington il then working in the city), or running to the hotel.

Saia STL is building a new terminal in st charles (st peters?), I forgot which one.. so it would be a good time to jump on board..

Yes I was told they are building new terminal in St. Peters out off 370 soon. Also they are opening several new terminals in Pennsylvania and New Jersey which is supposed to create quite a bit more I-70 freight in second quarter 2017.

I see they are doing concrete work out in St.Peters. Will there be more freight going through there when they open? Or will it take a while to have a need for more road drivers ??

I would like to apply only if you think they will be growing with the new terminal. Thank you for any info..

I was told they will more than likely at 2 more linehaul drivers in late February or early March, so it is already something they are planning on.

Right now, STL is not a breakbulk terminal. The new terminal WILL be a breakbulk, so there will be lots more freight going through there. Add in the extra freight we will be moving in and out of the new east coast terminals and it should get very busy.

They are just starting the concrete (dock). I would guess late spring 4 to 6 months. But i am a truck driver not a contractor.
The yard is still dirt and rocks at this point.
