A Kentucky woman is dead, but her 4-month-old daughter is uninjured after a high-speed accident on I-40 early Saturday morning that snarled traffic for about eight hours.

Janna Laird, 19, of Ashland, Ky., was driving east near the Charlotte Pike exits at about 2:30 a.m. with her brother, Jonathan Carr, 25, her daughter, Lillian Bishop, 4 months, and the child's father, James Bishop, 20. Laird, who was traveling above the speed limit, changed lanes in front of a tractor-trailer rig and lost control of her 2006 Honda Accord, said Metro police Capt. Anthony Carter.

Laird attempted to regain stability but overcorrected and struck the inside retaining wall. She bounced back into the traffic lanes and was struck first by the truck that she had passed and then by another tractor-trailer rig.
