ENNIS - One fatality was confirmed after a loose donkey that ran onto an Ennis freeway caused two 18-wheelers to collide Monday afternoon
Several people were chasing the donkey on foot when it ran onto a median at FM 879 and Interstate 45. The two 18-wheelers attempted to come to a stop, but instead were reported to have collided and caught on fire, which also led to a small grass fire.
Interstate 45 was shut down in both directions in the area of the accident.
Volunteers on horses and armed with lassos captured the donkey around 6:00 p.m. after chasing him through traffic congested streets.
