It's actually pretty good. You can have it where you actually have no one but yourself on it and ignore any friends requests. (If you don't like mingling with relatives or friends)
You can just "Like" different interests that might also have a facebook account. (Any favorite news sites, hobby sites etc)
When you check back into facebook you will see the latest news. It's usually up to the minute, just as fast as when the news breaks on tv.
