For months now I've been reading the various threads about efforts to unionize FredEx Freight.... and it seems to me that many of us are (understandably) concerned about our own personal situation but missing the larger picture. So here's something to think about:
One of the major factors which contributed to the onset of the Great Depression was that the wealthiest one percent of the population owned about one third of all assets in this country. (Look it up.) This is exactly what is happening today, only it's even worse. The very rich own a perverse percentage of Everything. This stifles economic growth and ultimately obliterates the middle class. What we are seeing now.... and not just in the trucking industry.... is a reflection of this phenomenon. Maintaining the expected ROI for well-heeled shareholders has become Job One. And there is only one way to turn that around: Organize, and compel the filthy-rich b***ards to give some of it back. :)

I couldn't have said it better myself tears in my eyes:cool:

My last year at FedEx I made $89,000.00. That's a pretty good annual wage for a high school graduate with no advance training. I'm wondering what you would consider filthy rich? My wife and I make a combined $130,000 a year. To a guy working in a warehouse making $28,000 a year, that's pretty rich. Why do you think you're entitled to more than what you make? Is it because you have honed your skills to be the best in the industry or is it because someone took the time to further their education and work their way up the ladder of success and because of that, makes much more than you and that's not fair? If you want more out of life, go out and get it.

This whole "they have more than me and it's not fair" attitude is what's wrong with America. Do you think Bill Gates, Steve Jobs or Warren Buffet had this attitude? I think not. They had ideas and took the risk to make these ideas a reality. Along the way, they made plenty of people wealthy and provided millions of jobs that helped people raise their families.

If you are wanting a union for the sole purpose of forcing the company to "share the wealth", you are doing it for all the wrong reasons. FedEx has bigger problems than the pay structure. How is your greed any better than the greed you think the corporation has?

I tried to look it up I found several reason and no general consensus, can you post a link?

He is a 99% er. A complete wack job. Punish the hardworking educated person.
It's people like you that is a drain on the economic machine what was this country made on hard hard work and not self pitty

If the sole reason to bring in a union is money then IHO it is already a lost cause. It should be more about benefits and security than anything else.

First off, lets address your claim that the great depression was brought on by income inequality.
The depression was caused by a lack of investing, and underconsumption. This was learned, oh, say when I was in high school.

Entitlement mentality.

THIS is a lot of what is wrong with America.

Also, if you drive for Fedex, YOU are in the top 15%. (look it up)
I have no part in unionization for the single purpose of "stickin it to the man"

About 25% of the YES crowd here have legitimate reasons to unionize.
The rest of you are showing your true colors.
Me! Me! Me! Lets show these rich, fat cats! More money, and less work!

I honestly hope this entire sham is a massive failure.

AMEN. There is not a person on here that would not take Bill L job and the money that goes with it. It just makes me laugh how people cry about the rich. IT YOU WANT TO BE RICH DO SOMETHING TO MAKE YOUR SELF THAT WAY. I guess they thought they would become millioners by driving a truck.

You are correct that millions of jobs were created, but the problem is those jobs are in China. Should Americans really have to subsidize the wages and benefits of Walmart workers when the Walton family is the richest in America? The same could be said about fast food workers. Im sure most of them would rather buy a franchise but where do they come up with capital to buy one? The hardest part about capitalism is the capital. Capital comes from savings. How do people that live paycheck to paycheck, suppose to save enough to have it really matter? What about the Wall Street banks? If anyone one of us had access to the Fed's discount window and could borrow money at 0%, I'm sure we could get rich too. The best part is if the banks bet right, they get to keep the profits and if they are wrong the taxpayers bail them out. That isn't capitalism, that's socialism for the rich.

http://www.cnbc.com/id/101038089#.

The 400 richest Americans are now worth a combined $2 trillion, according to Forbes.

That sets a record, Forbes said, and marks a jump from last year's total of $1.7 trillion.

The average net worth of a Forbes 400 member is now $5 billion—also the highest ever. And the costs of being part of the 400 Club rose to $1.3 billion.

I suppose it is frustrating for many to read an article as the one I posted and not feel a tinge of anger or jealousy. Your average everyday family is not out of the woods from the recession.

I think the real reason the Drivers are seeking out the Union is the total lack of respect as a person. As well as the benefit cuts.
Employees all over the US have not really seen the growth and climbed out of the crash.

No one at FEDEX in management cares ( or any med. to large company) if you took loans out on a 401K to stay afloat during the recession to pay bills. Nobody cares if you are still paying a mortgage on a underwater home, nobody cares if you were able to weather the recession and still pay your debts and not file a bankruptcy. Nobody cares if you or a family member got through all this and now have medical insurance that after one catastrophic illness will destroy all of that personal responsibility. It is just the way that it is.

The human factor in business is long gone, never coming back..adios..goodbye. I think workers everywhere feel this way, it is why customer service sucks, personal information is stolen and sold on the black market, data breached, workplace violence, suicides, etc.

At this point Fedex employees are fed up beyond anything I have seen in 10+ years, seeking out Unions, talking more openly, venting up a storm. Showing anger, even if misplaced.

I would rather see the debating, baiting, arguing on these forums than in terminals and face to face. If drivers feel the need to seek out a Union and want to try to organize as a last ditch effort..well more power to them. If some drivers are against the Union more power to them too.

I would hope that as things get uglier and debates get more heated, that we show the kind of respect toward each other that everyone is complaining Fedex does not give them. We are all human beings on here with many views and thoughts.

I'm a millionaire. It can be done driving a truck.

Fast food workers wanting to buy a franchise?
Bwahahaha! Yeah, ok Sparky. I think your massively overestimating the ambitious of the average American. Our world has become a society of "i deserve, just because"
. Ff workers want $15hr just so they can forget to leave mayonnaise off my burger.

i can agree with you on the most part of this, its not just about money it's about security and better benefits. but on the other hand speaking about bill gates he gives a lot of his money to charity. fred also gives money to st. judes which I have no problem with it's a great charity. my problem is how much he spends on sports, fedex cup, nascar, Washington redskins and so on. these guys are making millions and our ins. keeps going up our pay isn't to scale and if not for all the employees in the fedex brand making all this possible he couldn't spend all them millions on sports. speaking for my self I just want to be treated like somebody with respect for what I do for this company and my family instead of having fedex change the rules at a whim or getting my job treated if I accidently mess up. for all that worked for af, Viking, and Watkins would love to go back to being treated like we were humans not a number like we are at corperate fedex.

Bill gates pays his employees and gives them multiple perks, in other words he shares the wealth.
