I’m not sure who Sam Houston is, but it’d be nice if he would identify himself on here like he slandered those brothers in Dallas like he did. Those slanderous comments should not be tolerated on a forum as this.

Sam Houston 4,5 bills an hour the two terminals you talk about true but what you don’t see on a daily basis is 70% of the guys here don’t take care of the freight they just drop it run smash bang all to get a number so management will leave them alone .and there’s only a handful of guys that rework the trailers day in and day out to take care of the customers freight so I ask you sure their production is up but what about their claims ratio To production.I watch this first hand day in and day out. And as long as the numbers where they needed to be things don’t matter in the eyes of the terminal manager.

Doesn't the word slander mean false, not true? We have others on here from Texas, they are not disputing the claims.

I have always said there is only one number that matters and it's not hourly rate or cents per mile or misc pay rates.. The only number that matters is the dollar amount that is deposited in my checking account at the end of the week. They can pay you 90 cents per mile but if you don't get any miles it doesn't matter or if you have a ton of deductions such as four or five hundred for insurance a month it wipes out a bunch of that. So if anyone ever wants to impress me, tell me what the average deposit into your bank account is at the end of the week because that is the only number that matters. I know I was just reading a post recently on the OD board and the guy was throwing around some pretty impressive numbers but at the end of the week when he said what his take home was there was very little difference from mine.

I like this Sam Houston guy. He tells it how it is for those good for nothing lazy union brothers. Not all of them are lazy though. I worked with many good employees over the years and even though I had a good time working at this outfit I do see weakness in the management this company has currently. Roadway managers were so much better to work and I will not tell this forum why because I want the mangers this company has now to be stupid as they currently are. Most of the good managers have left and found better companies to work for so I am guessing you are overpaid or got a few years to go is the only reason you are staying with this outfit.

This company does try hard to ridicule former non yellow employees with harsher discipline, more verbal harassment, marginalizing and undermining psychological warfare if there is retaliation to any grievance held by such employee, crappier work assignments meanwhile hiring toxic people (managers and employees alike) to run the company down to a joke of an outfit to even work for anymore meanwhile seasoned yellow mangers reap all the benefits with nice salaries after other managers were railroaded out of their job. The union is a joke as they never intend to hear their employees voiced concerns and throw "I'm sorry" at the end of every statement to your argument against the company if you do have a grievance against the company. I say any friction this company throws at you just laugh at them because it really is not worth your mental energy to even think about how stupid these people really are. I took the move on approach as anything I ever said was never heard from anybody and the upper senior men just cared about their overtime more than their union brothers. Once they realize where the problem lies unfortunately it will be too late and when the bills are not paid they will close the gate. I am sure I will get a company man response to this post like somehow its my fault the company lost money the last quarter.

You make a lot of valid points. The one thing I have always said too, was that years ago when the birth of today's biggest non union carriers were gaining size, and market share, the union, and it's members just basically sat on their hands, and watched. Their, business as usual approach,as far as contracts, work rules, ways to compete against non union companies, and pension plans, are just a few of the things that no one addressed. The LTL environment has changed so much in the last 25 years, but the union side has not adapted to it. In ways, it is like our federal government. No one wants to CHANGE, anything. Many are afraid of that word..

Not to stir, but I found EXACTLY OPPOSITE in Indy, which is a reason I left. Here, people resent the Roadway letter writing, instead of Yellow just saying here's your work, come see me when youre done. Glad i did. Instead of hanging on, working three weeks a year in 2009, i moved to the Best job I've ever had.

There's no question the cultures were different. Yellow was loose and all about revenue and growth. Roadway was tough and all about managing costs and less about growing. Roadway always had significantly better operating ratios and owned their properties and equipment. Yellow was a locust that ate Roadway leadership after the merger and ruined the company like a cornfield.

Give me a job, tell what what needs done. Leave me alone, and we both succeed. Give me 14 supervisors following me with the purposes of discipline, we all fail.

Maybrook is such a bastion of goodness that they have alienated so many customers away that they can afford to wall off a large swath of the dock to Wal Mart for building and breaking down displays while they collect rent from Wal Mart. There use to be over 1000 employees in Maybrook now less than 300 !

Maybrook was once the site of a huge railroad complex employing many hundreds of workers. That's all gone also. The YRC operation occupies a small part of the original railroad complex. Things change, life goes on.

Every time I run down I81 through Carlisle I look over at the huge terminal alongside the road that used to have a big Consolidated Freightways sign on it and used to employ hundreds of Teamsters. Now when I pass it says Old Dominion and it employs hundreds of non-union workers.
