TForce | The End of the American truck driver

Teamsta II

The end

The advancement of the self driven vehicle, pertaining to all technologies involved will make the American truck driver virtually extinct as soon as 10 years with largest and most profitable companies. Though there will probably always be some companies who can't afford the new tech, they will be put out of business by the company's that don't have to pay drivers to drive their vehicles.
The first to be affected will certainly be the point to point drop and hook jobs. Then eventually even local delivery driver will be replaced.
There will probably be human who rides along at first or will be the unload-er or such, but the day is coming.
The companies will no longer have to worry about any human problems with drivers(licences, dot physicals, most importantly, no hours of service).
So basically if you have 15 years or more years to go before you can retire, you may want to contemplate your future today, and make some plans.
The American truck driver will be a thing of the past.

So will most jobs. By then the country will have in place free college tuition, medical, food stamps, and housing because there will be no jobs for the masses. It will be a cashless and Godless society. One of which I don't want to be here to see. I pray for those that will...

Trains still have a engineer and they run on a track. So I'm not worried about being replaced in the next 20 years

Assume that self driving commercial trucks get approval to run, when the first accident occurs, fatality or not, the trucks will get shut down. Imagine the chaos that would follow. The space shuttle Challenger exploded in 1986 and it took 3-4 years of re-engineering before the shuttle program went back to space. I can't see it happening.

The technology is already here. The trucks are already being tested. Over the next 10 years the technology will only get better. This isn't science fiction, it is fact, it is already occurring.
You can't stop the future and you can't stop the progress it is inevitable.
Politicians may try to stop the progress, butt they can be bought

:regretful:
Is there but it won't happen even if you died and born again, that involves reliable technology, law requirements and money... a lots of money.
I mean a lots of money.
I'm still driving a 2000 model VOLVO:shift:, taking a pallet jack and a dolly every day and hardly finishing assignments;:hysterical: at a very profitable company.
Did you read in the news one guy got kill by using self mode on a tesla car went into a cliff?
They are still investigating..

They are already using them and testing them. By 2025- 2030 there will be viable robot driven trucks available.
The horse and cart drivers never believed there would ever be motor vehicle safe enough or reliable enough to replace them. Technology is making strides that will surpass imagination. We now carry a computer in our pocket that has better tech than the ones that guided rockets to the moon.

Trucking jobs are safe for the next 10 years, but from that point onwards? There will certainly be dock workers and such, but the future of the trucker is not a viable one.

There is one thing that can stop any commercial venture and that is insurance premiums. Companies can't operate without it.

For linehaul maybe, but no computer will be able to navigate my customers pickup and delivery sites. Over half don't even have docks! whats the computer going to do when it has to back off of a major 4 lane artery into a narrow driveway? Get out of its spot in the cab and ask the morons who pulled to close to back up? Lol. Not gonna happen

What about driverless forklifts????

Technology has been in place for years to replace low level managers and that ain't happened yet. It would be far easier to replace all managers with central call center for customer service and tracked (disciplinary enabled) metrics for drivers. Ain't happened yet, shut up & drive. :shift:

My question is.............. What happens when a truck is dispatched to ABC warehouse and the proper gate and then to see the guard at the entrance shack? The guard is on his rounds and the gate is closed. Does the driverless truck stop or proceed thru the gate? I am sure the people behind the computors will have all that worked out. YEA Right !
