No problem. They just need to find a job that doesn't involve driving.

In the past, that might mean taking a dock bid. That's changing. Drivers are going to drive, dockmen are going to work the dock.

It's just smart business sense. If you have someone qualified to drive, why pay him drivers wages to sit on a forklift?

For the experience that they have.

Or the knowledge that they bring.

Not every dockworker ( but a lot that work at Con-way ) don't care and could give a crap about safety - as you said they just "sit on a forklift"

A person who is CDL qualified should be compensated way more than a forklift driver...

We don't pay them drivers wages unless they get behind the wheel. These workers have dock bids. We supplement our driving pool from the dock. You see all those stories about how restrictive our labor agreements are really don't hold water. This company I work for has a great deal of flexibility that they mismanage daily.
