If that happens watch LTL pay rates go down to truckload nothing to stop them too with no union contract.

That will be the best thing that could happen to the union. Then drivers will see the need for one. Right now they don’t

Whoa , wait a minute , Non-Union pay scale is HIGHER than union pay scale now , XPO $26.50 , Fed Ex $26.75 Old Dom. $29.00 , and the list goes on , so union contract has nothing to do with higher pay scale , we are the bottom feeders now when it comes to hiring !

FedEx is at 28 something where I am. Does free insurance not offset the low starting wages at some of these companies?

I disagree with that! The industry needs to hire experienced personnel and to do so they are willing to pay at decent rates in today’s market. At one time yes we union carriers set the bar and to attract experienced drivers the Non’s had to match reasonable rates. That has been flipped on its axis over the last ten years.

Today the attractive companies to work for are actually the Non’s in so many ways, sure they have their set backs as all companies do, but the fact is due to the handling of all YRCW and affiliates the Union brand is not as attractive as it once was.

Absolutely no one wants to see a carrier go down! It is not something that we should be happy for because it could happen to anyone of us. We should also start to change the way we look at the Non’s in many ways! They are fellow brothers and sisters doing the same exact job as you and I, they may not belong to the Union, but they go out Day in and day out and experience and put up with the same exact things that we do. This is a mindset that has to change in many ways. Instead of looking down on them as many do, we should get to know them, because you never know one day you just may be working alongside them and they may have the seniority over you.

A positive change can come from any negative circumstance and for many over at NEMF this just might be the positive change that they needed. Let’s all hope they land on their feet running as guys from CF, Preston, and so many from the long lost boneyard were able to do in the past.

Companies like Holland, YRC, ABF and the rest are in desperate need of experienced personnel. For a long time they have had to recruit from less experienced pool of drivers, this is an opportunity for them to bring in guys and gals that know the ins and outs of the industry.

And frankly you never know in a few months it just may be you and I in the same situation with or without a Union contract to “protect” us.

Say a prayer for these fellow Brothers and Sisters be they Union or Non that they make lemonade out of the lemon handed to them.

One of the positives that I have seen over the last couple days on the board is @New Penn actively answering questions and preemptively recruiting drivers and dock personnel.

He is not sugar coating anything and addressing many of the things plaguing New Penn in the recent past, I also seen other companies come on here and offer up positions as well.

These are all steps moving forward and not argumentive and negative like so much that we see in today’s day and age. Drivers at other outfits should follow this example and reach out as well.
