Lots of talk around the company about the truck driving contest coming up. Has anyone done this, whats it like, worth the effort? How tough is the competition?
I assume you mean the State Truck Driving Championships.
Anyone that goes a year accident free (the criteria) has the skills to get it done. The course problems are similar to the kinds of things you may encounter every day. I recomend getting the booklet"Course diagrams and championships problems" from ATA. It can be ordered from www.truckline.com
There is a written test, all the questions come from the "Facts for drivers" book that you will receive when you enter. There also will be a pretrip inspection where you will have a set amount of time to find planted defects and a personal interview.
It is a fun and worthwhile experiance. Good luck and I hope to see you in New Orleans this August at the National Truck Driving Championships.
