U.S. Customs and Border Patrol Certifies Con-way Freight C-TPAT Program
On May 22, 2006 US Customs conducted a highway carrier validation on Con-way for their Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT). C-TPAT is U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) most aggressive and globally comprehensive anti-terrorism program developed since 9 -11. A cross-border government - industry partnership; C-TPAT was designed to be America's front line against terrorists activities that might use our supply chain to smuggle WMD or contraband into the U.S.

Participation in C-TPAT requires importers, carriers and supply chain contractors to implement a comprehensive transportation security plan while continually validating security commitments, operational plans, and business practices. The program touches every aspect of the company’s daily operational and administrative functions.

Customs validation of Con-way Freight’s C-TPAT commitments was a milestone according to Curtis Shewchuk, Director and CSO for Con-way Freight. Our continued participation in C-TPAT now insures Con-way’s cross-border clearances are expedited and reduces inspections by Customs while securing our nation’s borders. As a business initiative our certification encourages continued partnerships with major importers who require their supply chain partners to be C-TPAT participants.
