Holland | Voting for a pay increase?

The Palins' assets seem enviable: a half-million-dollar home on a lake with a float-plane at the dock, two vacation retreats, commercial-fishing rights worth an estimated $50,000 or more and an income last year of at least $230,000.
Half-million dollar home....Nothing to do with their annual income. Float plane....Nothing to do with their annual income. Two vacation retreats....Nothing to do with their annual income. commercial-fishing rights worth estimated 50K... There is Todds income. If I remember correctly, her Gov. wages are somewhere around 120K annually. Add it up Mr. Dude, That comes up to roughly the 166K that I reported. Any other questions? Just because you have alot of stuff, doesn't mean you make a pile of money.:1036316054:

I can't to see how he spins this!!:biglaugh::biglaugh:
I don't need to spin it! Surely you do understand that just because you have a lot of "stuff", that doesn't change your gross income. It usually just means that your in debt. Even if you have income from other sources, capital gains, etc. It still doesn't change your income from your jobs. :1036316054:

Count your blessings

The other day I was cruising a back country road with my orange and white motel, when I seen a crib with an Obama sign in the front yard. The reason it got my attention was that the crib, was a nasty looking trailer house, that the yard looked like a hay field, (the tractor must be broken, because 1st, 2nd, or 3rd cutting had not been taken off yet) and there were more appliances out in the yard, than there is out behind Sears! But, they proudly displayed their Obama sign. My guess is, they heard about the potential for them getting a pay raise. (refund that they didn't even pay in) Where else can you get a refund from something that you didn't pay in on, to begin with? Only in the world of SOCIALISM!

You insensitive pile!!! that was a USF Holland road driver's home, he lost his job due to 70% of the brothers voting for the "greatest contract ever" and the never to be forgotten

You got that right, and the Republicans are all for corporate welfare, 15 billion dollars in tax breaks for the oil companies, a wall street bailout, trade deals robbing this country of good paying jobs while rewarding the CEO of the company that moves off-shore. King George has sure helped the rich get richer and the poor get poorer in this 8 years of reverse robinhood. If we are fortunate enough for the senate to gain enough seats for a veto proof majority which I believe is 60, then you will see some gains for working class people like us.
Walmart is already shaking in their boots telling their managers if a Democrat gets elected they may have to go Union.
What card carrying Teamster wouldn't like to see that. What Union member wouldn't like to see it made easier for non-union employees that desire to to have collective barganing rights with the FREE Choice Act the IBT has lobbied so hard for. The democratic candidate said he would sign it into law, don't you think that would help all of us? McCain said he would have Fred Smith on his cabinet if he were to win, do you know who that is, the founder and CEO of Fed Ex. Do you think he is going to help with worker friendly laws or legislation? The employees at Fed Ex have to pay for their insurance , go check their boards. Are you better off now than you were eight years ago? If you like this economy, the corporate welfare, tax breaks for the very rich, keep listening to the rantings of a convicted drug addict on the radio(Rus- Limb) and vote republican.
Now that is funny! The teamsters can not even organize the non-union trucking companies, how will they organize Walmart?:hysterical:

As long as the family income is under $250.000, they will not get taxed under the Obama presidency, that is why Sarah and Todd will be voting for Barrack & Biden.

Lumpy, You missed a golden opportunity to give me the "insensitive pile of :horse: icon. I remember seeing Hoffa and Michigan Gov. Granholm on the cover of our Teamster Magazine. She has helped destroy Union jobs here in Michigan. Where is Hoffa's support for her now? Our union also pushed for this "greatest contract ever". Our union is now pushing for the great Obama. Am I the only one that sees a trend here? People are being duped. Take off your political party hat, and put on your red, white and blue hat, before it is too late.:USA:

I don't know why you're laughing, in case you don't know the Teamsters have organized landscapers, hotel service people, street sweepers, fast food chain employees, hot dog cutters, etc.etc., they have had great success in membership recruitment in the service industries:biglaugh:

Good one! Wait a minute though. A week ago, it was the people making over 250k that would get their taxes raised. Three days ago, Obama slipped and said that it was people that made over 200k that would get their taxes raised. Then yesterday, Biden slipped and said that it would be people making over 150k that will get their taxes raised. At this pace, by election day, the truth should be out......EVERYONE MAKING OVER 18K WILL HAVE THEIR TAXES RAISED.

HE-HAW.......oops.

Hey Northern Flash in the pan, I did not use the horse icon because I did not want the MOD SQUAD on my case, but if it will make you happy, here it goes:horse:

Northern Flash's true colors...

Northern Flash, I see your true colors shining through. You look down on those less fortunate than you. You don't like the Teamsters. You are against tax breaks for poor people, then complain that your Gov. didn't give enough tax breaks to businesses. You are a Republican zealot. I don't think even YOU actually believe (at least I hope not) half of the suff you come up with. It's just getting silly trying to communicate with you.

you hit the nail right on the head teamster 02! just another one that thinks holland pays his wage and benefits because they want to.

I don't look down on others that are less fortunate than I am. I simply want others to put in the same effort to make a living that I do. I don't like to hand my hard earned money over to anyone that I do not chose to hand it to. You know absolutely nothing about my feelings about the Teamsters. I expect the Teamsters to represent all of us to the best of their ability, and support the contract. And according to what I read on here and hear around the terminal, this contract is pathetic. I am not against tax breaks for the poor people. I am against giving people a tax break that did not even pay in. That is called a handout. Do you understand that when we get a refund, that means that we paid in too much money in taxes, therefore we are getting some of our own money back? Or do you not even understand that? If you don't understand that, then clearly that is why you are willing to give people a handout, that do not deserve it. If you do not pay in any taxes because of your low income, how would you deserve a tax refund? And on the business end of taxes. The Governor, counties, and cities have the option of altering tax payments for businesses, to give them an opportunity to regain profitability, which will sometimes save a business from bankruptcy. Sometimes the business can even get tax exemption completely, because they employ so many people in that community. My Gov. Granholm, here in Michigan, has made no attempt to help the businesses that are struggling, to stay in Michigan. Therefore they leave the state.

Who do you think organized Overnite(ups freight) Einstein?
If you actually think that the union had to do anything to organize Overnight, you are in la la land. UPS package was already union. It was a given that Overnight would be organized immediately. UPS had full intentions of UPS Freight being organized before they ever bought them. UPS didn't even try to fight the union. The Union only did the paperwork.

Speaking of handouts....

I am against giving people a tax break that did not even pay in. That is called a handout. What about the people of the State of Alaska, from which your Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin is from. In Sarah Palin’s state of Alaska, every citizen gets a check from the government every year for doing absolutely nothing. Not for work. Not for anything they’ve earned. They get that check just for breathing and living in Alaska. Last year, that check amounted to $3,269 per taxpayer. And all for nothing.

Do you know where Alaska gets that money? They get it mostly from the oil companies that pump oil from the state. More than half of Alaska’s total tax revenues come from separation taxes, which are basically taxes on oil and minerals taken from the ground. Another 25% or so comes from corporate taxes. Because companies are paying so much, Alaska citizens pay no income or state sales taxes.

But they do get a check generated from the wealth those big companies generate. And there is no other state in the Union that doesn’t require either a sales or income tax from its citizens, yet gives them a check every year from money those citizens didn’t earn.

So you see, Northern Flash, getting something for doing NOTHING. It seems to me you are against that, right? Even when your VP is Gov. of that state? Now please apply your spin and make her out to be a hero, but that is EXACTLY what you said you were against. They pay nothing in, but get something back.

Truckingboards does not allow racism or hate here, topics get pretty heated but it is your responsibility to learn the fine art of attacking the subject of a post and not attacking the one who posts it, threats are not tolerated here.

Debate only the subject of each others posts please! Thanks Guys.

Here is where your thinking is flawed. The Alaskan people invested into the oil industry when they purchased Alaskan property. The key word is invested. That means that they spent money on their property, which entitles them to some of the profits from "big oil". The Alaskans voted on this long before Sarah Palin became Governor. (Their permanent fund was established in 1976)
Alaska citizens pay no income or state sales taxes.
If the state has been run so efficiently that they have a surplus of revenue, why would the state need more money from tax payers? Sounds like that is pretty fair business to me.

So you see, Northern Flash, getting something for doing NOTHING. It seems to me you are against that, right?
The Alaskan land owners do have something invested. They bought property in Alaska. This Alaskan issue is basically the same thing that we have here in Michigan. We have what is called "mineral rights" for our properties. If you have the mineral rights for your property, and there is a oil or gas well on your property, you get what is called a royalties check each month, based on the revenue generated from that specific well. The unfortunate side of this is that the Michigan residents didn't do what Alaska did many years ago. If Michigan would have been wise enough to follow Alaska's lead, every Michigan land owner would be getting royalties. Here in Michigan only specific land owners have their mineral rights. Most rights are owned by large corporations, and they won't give them up.

Here is where your thinking is flawed. The Alaskan people invested into the oil industry when they purchased Alaskan property. The key word is invested. That means that they spent money on their property, which entitles them to some of the profits from "big oil".
Like a true Republican, you skirted the issue. Answer the question, is it right for these people who paid nothing in to get something back? I see you keep saying they "invested" in their land and have mineral rights. First off you need not "invest" anything in land to get that $3269 check. You simply have to reside there for 1 full year. Oh, and that check is for every man, woman, and child. I guess that would be a pretty big incentive to have more children to profit from the system, wouldn't it? Are you for that as well? As far as mineral rights go, you only have "surface" rights, the mineral companies can go under your property, and there is nothing you can do about it. Come on Northern Flash, at least be consistant with your principals, either you are for something or against it. You can lie to me, but don't lie to yourself.

As far as mineral rights go, you only have "surface" rights, the mineral companies can go under your property, and there is nothing you can do about it.

We have many gas and oil wells around us where I live, and yes if you own the mineral rights you do receive a royalty check if you allowed them to drill. Also if you own the mineral rights the only way the gas and oil people can get the oil or gas off your property is by angle drilling from other properties they own the rights. They cannot just come in to your land and set up a drilling rig and take your gas or oil. Not many people own mineral rights anymore though. :smilie_132:
