The new ruling would create a unified searchable database that contains positive drug and alcohol tests, violations, or test refusals and will be available to all prospective employers. This differs from today in which driver recruiters only have access to their own company’s drug tests, allowing drivers to evade the problem by switching employers and getting retested. In addition to reporting drug test failures and refusals, carriers would be required to report traffic citations caused by driving under the influence and to check the database on all new hires as well as once a year for existing drivers.

Well there will be a real driver shortage after Jan.20th.

But hay just obey the laws & you won't have any hassles by law enforcement.
I have been seeing a lot more truckers being arrested after crashes, this year as a Moderator of the Accident forum.
I'm going to have to go along with this new law, besides if it is going into effect in a few weeks, who is going to stop it?

I think such laws should apply to all legislators and welfare recipients as well and that they should be exposed to the same treatment that we are.

I believe it will help, but only as much as any such "requirement" has helped.
    Thanks B 2 roadscholar88 for presentation!

I agree Apostolic, the Driver Shortage will not be a myth yet it IS NEEDED to verify the massive availability of Qualified and Experienced Drivers who are continuously OVERLOOKED :36: for young incompetent and very less trained drivers (who are, sadly, with 3 months experience, :17113: also trainers).

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

    CHEERS!! :stirthepot:

This should have been a law long ago.

Why didn't they do this twenty years ago and include everyone, not just truck drivers?

because the trucking industry does not have lobbyists like every other group out there.

since we do not fight things, but only talk about them at truck stops, or on the cb radio, others walk all over us.

then we biotch about it on message boards, or in the truck stops, or on the cb radio.
