You mention exemptions and once you start exemptions it opens the can of worms about which exemptions we want.
    Suddenly its not simple anymore.

Suppose you open up some trucking business you lease a lot for your trucks and trailers you put up a small warehouse you lease trucks and trailers.
Now you're looking for tax deductions for the cost of business.
Nothing has changed accept the final tax rate.:idunno:
It was all just as complicated to do

Personal Taxes would have no deductions? For Children and other dependants? Housing, medical expenses?
All would pay the same rate?
I don't see how thats fair

Florida is a tourist based economy with some agriculture (poor wages)
I guess if you can afford to stay and have good income more power to you.
I see why people move to Florida but even here the taxs are going up.
Wonder what the cheapest places are in the USA?

Other than the taxes, I love Maine, I'd sell and move into something smaller before I'd move somewhere I don't like to pay lower taxes. I couldn't live in Florida, I hate hot weather, I look forward to the end of summer each year. I have other options I'm considering, I may subdivide a couple acres off my 15 and have a carriage house built on it, got plans for one with 750 SF of living space on top, 2 car garage underneath, then I can sell my house with the remaining 13 acres.

With a national sales tax not only the tax code be eliminated but irs could be reduced to almos t nothing. Addition by subtraction. Add hundreds of billions collected from illegals and criminals were talking major coin. Maybe enough to wipe out the deficit.

If they did it they would have to rebate the poor folks back because they are near the poverty line. For the rich it's nothing and if it bothered them they could not purchase the new boat or car.
The middle class would be the people stuck paying for it in my opinion.
My opinion is usually right as the readers here know.

You can have non-taxables like food and medical otherwise everyone pays, poor people would feel a sense of country if they had a little skin in the game.
Without the irs or criminal tax cheats the revenues would nessasrily increase to fix the roads and bridges. More jobs for welfare people!

Relieve some items from taxes or tax everything at a lower rate, either way 'it comes out in the wash', as we say in my neck of the woods.

Clothing could be exempt up to a certain price point, like Hillary's $12,495 Giorgio Armani jacket she wore to deliver a speech about income inequality would be taxed.
