Who were you before? Why be afraid to say?

You can't have it both ways. How do corporations make as much profit as they can if they don't take advantage of tax "loopholes"?

As to taking advantage of employees, I believe there is no such thing. Nobody can be taken advantage of unless they allow themselves to be.

No one, to my knowledge, has ever been banned for being prounion. Quite a few called racist insults, personal cussing out Jeff, or otherwise breaking rules. Never for their views, when presented politely. Look at pilot- he's been here easily that long, and he openly promotes socialism. Or slave, who started as NPT in about 04.

There's more to it, and you won't tell your history...

I know I'm going to regret posting this but here goes. This is just one example and it's a fit for this trucking site. How about the fact that Old Dominion, an industry leader, doesn't lay off it's employees. They are economically terminated (RIF) without regard to seniority. They are not recalled when there is a need for more employees. They can reapply and if hired they must start over as new employees at the entry level pay rate. If that's not taking advantage then I don't know what is............................Okay I'm ready for the OD apologists to have at me.

I'm not an apologist. Because I was union for 22 years, they won't hire me. But it's their company. You should ask about it going in. Don't like it- don't work there.

Nice try but there isn't much to tell. I never said I was banned or broke any rules other than 1 reprimand for referring to a proven liar as a fraud. I left of my own free will because I felt this site was at that time too anti union for my liking.

I wasn't referring to you as an OD apologist. I had asked about OD's layoff policy in an on topic thread on the OD forum. I was chased off the forum by it's moderator for not being an OD employee. I was accused of being a troll and have never posted there since that I time. I asked a simple on topic question that was later verified by a riffed former OD employee.

Thats fair. Thanks for explaining, and welcome back. ( seems to me you claimed 'Chased off'. Slight misrepresentation...) Doesn't mean anyone gets a pass. This is a very tough but very polite forum who expects people to politely be ready to defend their reasoning. I've had to do basically college history research to defend myself on here. Its a great learning experience.

Now, who were you before you became a female canine?

Some on yrc and abf are the same controlling attitude. Walk away from them, it's their loss and you won't be as stressed. Its a shame, the forums are supposed to be open. Many try to chase me off YRCW, even tho I worked there as a Teamster. Oh well...

I am hired, I see folks get RIF'd, only to later come back at a lower pay. I get RIF'd, I choose (important word there) to come back and reapply, knowing that if re-hired that I am going to start over. Somehow that's my employers' fault?

Since they are RIF'd without regard to seniority then it must be based on merit. As much heat as TM's receive over making numbers, and as that trickles down hill, you think they are going issue RIF to slugs or hard working, productive folks?

Or possibly the higher paid employees with more vacation time with a larger 401 contribution.

Maybe chased wasn't the right word but it wasn't meant to be a misrepresentation. At that time I felt the site owner and the majority of the moderators were openly anti union so I chose to stop posting here. I would occasionally stop by and read the union forums. After a while I realized that union posters were being treated more fairly. I chose to return with a fresh start under a new username. And no I'm not claiming to be a victim.

I'd pay somebody twice as much, give them twice as much vacation and twice the 401 contribution if they provided me more than twice the return.
It's quite simple really. They are only getting rid of the more expensive employee when they are more expensive to the bottom line.

There's a reason carriers hire $25/hr CDL guys instead of 3 clowns on minimum wage.

Okay, you and I disagree on the meaning of employees being taken advantage of. Here is a recent post of an Old Dominion employee being terminated while out on disability. This quote is taken from a recent post on the Old Dominion forum.

"Yes Matrix will only approve you for 4 weeks at a time. They want status updates. I kept in communication with them and my TM, and the Leave of Absence Dept. weekly with status updates and it didn't do me any good, they still fired me. I had 2 doctors notes allowing me to return to work too. They told unemployment it was "lack of work". I was told by corporate if the position becomes available I could re-apply. REALLY!!!"

I don't know this drivers personal work history. Being an at will employee he could have been terminated without cause at any time before his disability. So I assume he was most likely a decent worker. It's not my intention to single OD out here because at will employment is the norm in right to work states. I'm just using an example of what I consider to be a corporation treating it's employees unfairly while making record profits

boy the left has done a great job of taking control of the language
wanting to live by the rule of law, by the Constitution is now extreme
People like Hilly and Bernie are moderates
A great job has been done moving the playing field so far to the left that anything slightly right s now considered "extreme"

So is it your opinion that the bottom line is all that counts in the corporate world? If that's so then there isn't any room or need for employee loyalty. Just work harder and faster than the next guy. Your employees are nothing more than numbers to be utilized for 4 to 8 hours a day. The corporate "we are family" slogans are nothing but B/S in your "expensive to the bottom line" mentality.

I apologize to the mods for going so far off topic. My last couple of posts are in response to the claim that employees can't be taken advantage of.

Jimmy, I've seen posters on the YRC forum tell others who aren't YRC employees they should not be posting in "their" forum...including you.... I've always defended your right to be there as it is an open forum.....

Opposing view points and input from other members from different Company forums is what makes things so much more interesting.... No one should be made to feel they can't post on any forum....
Unless they break a rule...of course...

Unfairly? How long was the employer supposed to hold his position for him? 8weeks, 16 weeks, 164 weeks? When he was released without restriction, why would you consider it fair to his replacement employee to be terminated?

In my opinion, it's not all that counts, but it is the reason a business is in business. In my opinion, you can't focus on the bottom line to the point where the ends justify the means anymore than you focus on all the stuff in the middle regardless of the bottom line.

As to employee loyalty, unfortunately in the land of big corporations the loyalty being a two-way street went out the window a long time ago. The relationship is mutually beneficial. The "we are family" slogans carry some weight, in my opinion, with companies small enough to be "like family". If your CEO can run into you at the grocery store and doesn't know your name and your kids' names, you aren't "family".

Do you expect your employer to be loyal to you when your value is zero? I don't. Certainly, not any more loyal than I would be to them if their value to me was zero. Would you volunteer to do the job you do, without pay, for 6 months? If not, why should your employer be loyal to you for 6 months when you provide zero value to them? If you want to do charitable things, there are charities. Your employer isn't a charity.
