I've had this icon and pop up from Microsoft for quite some time now to download Windows 10 for free. Says it's full version. I've been steering clear of it to see what bugs might be in it and now I'm looking to see what experiences people have had with it. Anyone using it? If so what are your experiences?

Thanks.

i recently had it, then i had to do a full resore, and lost it.

mind you, there was no problem per se with 10, but i got this nagging pop up telling me that the AMD Quick Stream could not find the license. well after reading several websites, it was said, i did not need Quick Stream, so i uninstalled it, properly..

big mistake on my part, as AMD is also my cpu.....!!!!

hour after hour of "Please Wait".

for my pc to actually start, several attempts at getting into the BIOS/CMOS settings, as well as removing the CMOS battery, to no avail...

so i had no choice but to do a full back to factory restore....

i thought i had lost everything, which usually in a full factory restore you do.

BUT...we have "one drive", which is like a "cloud" file..???

everything was there....

well, except my porno videos....dammit...

now i gotta surf for newer ones......on top of the new ones i had.....

so all in all, in the short time i had 10....i ,liked it....

be forewarned however, if you get ANY pop ups on your start up screen, for the life of God and all that is holy....

DO NOT REMOVE OR DELETE..........!!

JUST "X" OUT OF THAT, and locate a work around, or LIVE WITH IT...!!!!!!!!!!!!

i am not even sure i can ever get back that free upgrade.........

but i will try.................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

in fact, do some research on possible pop ups in Windows 10, so you will be prepared..............

unlike i was.

I'll take the plunge today and report back on my experience. I still have an iPad if my laptop goes down.

2 1/4 hours and fini, up and running. So...any tips or things to look for/appreciate about this latest and greatest OS?

you may not be able to change the colors of the borders. i hated the black task bar, so i was able to change that to blue.

i hate the white windows border at the top of the screen, but was unable to change that. in widows 10, they took away the color choices, that we had in 8.

you may (or may not) get any pop ups, telling you that a license of a product cannot be found. ignore it, and "X" out, and continue. if there is something you want to uninstall, get several web sites worth of advice to do so.

OK, been on Windows 10 for a few days now and other than a new look I am not seeing any real differences. Maybe I just don't know about or use the features that it offers? Different layout, colors etc. but that's all I'm finding...except it does seem a tad faster, barely noticeable and it might be my imagination. Have seen one complaint listed where updating a data card for someone became impossible with the update, I only use that once a year so I'll have to wait and find out.

Is it possible to turn off the security feature/locked system? I find it more annoying than comforting and can't find an on/off switch for it.

lock/security feature..?? like needing to use your logon each time.>??

if so, i am not sure, as you would be the administrator of the pc and account, allowing you to make changes, that no one else can but you.

in other windows versions i have ever had, i ran as "guest, but this now limits some things.

what you can try to do is, go to control panel

then in the right pane, look for "user accounts and safety"

the click onto "change account type"

then select "guest"

go from there.

however, since i have mine set (still windows 8.1 by the way), i am not sure this will do away with the logon screen, that still requires your password.

as for 10 not being any different.>??

in the short time i had it, it was faster, and not as "buggy" as 8.1.

i'll be getting 10 back, just when, can't say, i still have to now wait for M$ to let me know, when i can download it.

It took me about 10 tries to get my mail working but I'm a real knucklehead on all things technology. I'm just not into it.

10 is what it is and took around 3 hours to install. I find no real excitement as the "perks" appear mainly on I.E. and I'm usually on Google Chrome or Firefox.
For now 10 is FREE and if/when it comes to paying for the upgrade, I'll easily uninstall and go back to 8.1
CHEERS!!

I surmise your "corruption" (one of many leeches) was directly from one of your p*on site visits or your security system was not able to redirect or eliminate the threat(s). You're not using Norton correct?

Hmmm, never considered that 'free' might really mean 'free for now'....:confused1:

ABFer,

A few months gone or last year, I read some print on some forums (not here at TB) about the possibility of Microsoft charging for Windows 10 AFTER having installed on PC's, etc.
I find no such info here.
I found, at the bottom of the page:
Yes, free! This upgrade offer is for a full version of Windows 10, not a trial. 3GB download required; internet access fees may apply. To take advantage of this free offer, you must upgrade to Windows 10 within one year of availability. Once you upgrade, you have Windows 10 for free on that device.

You're Welcome!
CHEERS!!

i knew it to be free. i have to wonder if this was done due to the bugginess of 8 and 8.1..????
