IFrozen meals make mess on highway
An interstate crash in Columbia County Sunday left an Ohio woman dead and the roadway littered with frozen dinners, backing up weekend traffic for miles.

The three-vehicle crash was set in motion at about 2:30 p.m. when a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Peter C. Lukowitz, 56, of Chetek, hit the front bumper of a semi-trailer while changing from the left to the center lane while traveling west on Interstate 90-94-39 just south of Portage, according to Sgt. Marlene Harley of the State Patrol. The semi veered into the right lane, where it struck another semi, driven by a 32-year-old trucker from Port Washington, Ohio.

The second semi lost control and smashed into a concrete pillar of the Highway V overpass, killing a 22-year-old woman passenger in the truck and seriously injuring the driver. The woman's name and the name of the driver were not being released this morning as coroner's officials notified family members. Neither was wearing a seat belt.

No one else in the crash was injured, and the other vehicles involved were able to drive away, Harley said.

The trailer of the second semi detached from the tractor and became wedged under the bridge, dumping its load of frozen dinners on the westbound lanes, which delayed the reopening of two lanes for hours.
