Not long ago he was quoted as saying purchases were over, going to concentrate on building the business. Now this! What say you?

This article was taken from the Wall Street Journal. I couldn't post that for some reason.

Shouldn't surprise anyone it's all about creating the image of value to drive the stock price up.

Go for it. There's a reason why our stock is 65 bucks a share, and investors say to buy stock. We're one of the few companies sitting in the right places to capitalize on ecommerce and last mile. Plus a world wide network.

He not add new business just building up what he has

    "
    • This time around the focus is largely on companies that would bolster XPO’s existing business lines, particularly in contract logistics, rather than adding new services, Jacobs says.

We were told yesterday Last Mile is beginning soon at our barn, taking four doors and utilizing our dock help. We will be paid fees.

The lines are starting to blur between the entities. . I think they mentioned in the slide presentation that we will start handling some of the more heavy residential deliveries. Last mile is all owner operators. They brought them into are terminal last August to help deliver some of are freight. The Tm said they would like to do it again at our place but can't because we're a union shop .
At the locations where they can do it he said they will get some of the larger residential deliveries and the last milers will get some of are smaller stuff from us.

As the lines blur and the lower labor cost figures in many will be looking for work.

Ours was Tuesday. Someone specifically asked if Last Mile would ever be delivering some of our city freight ever. No answer as usual....

We may be looking at this wrong. To look at it as our freight and their freight ( last miles) I think we need to look at as to utilizing freight and last miles infrastructure and equipment and workforce in a way that is the most efficient and cost effective. If that mean using our line haul system to move more last mile product or their owner operator model to deliver more of our smaller freight in a much more cost effective way ( no benefits or 401 k contributions to pay) than so be it.
I think the current separate models we operate under will become more intertwined. If you remember early on in the acquisition the big shots said that was the goal. We will be much more attractive to a company like amazon also when it comes to one company that can handle multiple types of shipments. Hence they will utilize us more.
That's just my 2 cents. We will find out once they start implementing their plan and not a minute soone.

I think the general worry may that mgmt may add a few small stops to a last mile guy in order to cut a p & d route out. We see it all the time at my place on linehaul, swinging pup after pup to sub service vans and our guys' runs are cut.

Only time will tell .. I think the outsourcing will become more prevalent but not replace company employees completely.

There is plenty of work. Trucking companies are back to begging for drivers. If this company doesn't want us it don't matter. CDL = CASH.
