Before ABF implemented the Western sleeper operation they filed a COO. Jeff posted the COO in December 2010. I am sure it is in the archives. The sleeper operation required a COO because it involved moving employees & changed the number of employees at different terminals. I don't think a sleeper operation could be put in place without changing freight lanes & moving employees. The Western sleeper operation required moving drivers & relocating maintenance employees at least one terminal. I know some of the maintenance men at Pico Rivera were moved. I think they went to San Bernardino. I think a COO would be required for a sleeper operation to be added but if I am wrong please let me know. I don't want to post something that is not accurate. We need to be factual with our posts here. Maybe Jeff can tell us what is correct.

Ahhhh, sleepers. The absolute WORST thing that ever happened to this industry hands down!
1.) Employers can leave you in a fricken wal mart parking lot for days...with NO pay in many cases
2.) You stay out for days, or in some cases, weeks
3.) Eat the absolute worst food you can imagine
4.) take showers in 'pig pen' truck stops taht are cleaned by people making $7.00 / hr. (You can only imagine how well they clean the showers)
5.) after your expenses are paid for the week, your net pay is scary low.
6.) most non-union companies do not pay for breakdowns & layovers (if they do, it's something like 50 bucks /day WOW!

oh well, you get the picture.. worst thing ever for this industry.

Under a union contract you wouldn't have those problems. For the non-union folks out there I think that is a way of life. Low pay, too much time sitting around, too much money spent on feeding yourself out on the road. And that is just the beginning.

Yes and no. Some non union are crap, some run pretty good. And pay well.

And feeding yourself on the road, that's just life on the road. But there are ways to healthy and semi cheaply on the road. Carry a cooler, and stock up at Wally World.
I use to run from Dallas to Sac. Three day turn. Never once had to stop and eat junk. Had pre made meals, snacks and plenty of water.
