Smoking in the trucks

Or con-way can reverse the smoking policy in the trucks, in the office, on the dock, and in the trailers.

Let me ask all the smokers on here. Do you have the Balls to walk up on the dock or in the office smoking? Or do you just like to hide behind the windshield like a coward.

I would be willing to bet good money that i have one of the cleanest tractors in the entire company. We do not have "assigned tractors" at NRM, some of us just "claim" a tractor and keep it clean and keep all of our stuff in it. Ive told managment countless times im tired of driving a smoke filled truck because it will quickly give me a bad headache....but for me personally the garbage in the truck is a bigger problem. I had to slip seat for a good 4 years, then i built me a hell of a radio box and then started "claiming" a tractor. I started out claiming the older units....my first being a '99 Sterling with the air-starter. Truck was a true "con-way beater". Old 632-9180, i think its retired over in NKX now. Anyhow, i do wish they enforced the no smoking policy and also a policy of keeping the trucks clean.

They smoke in the trucks because they have an addiction. When I was a smoker, I smoked in the tractors. I tried to be considerate by rolling the windows down and wiping everything down clean to minimize the smell and mess but I did not let the policy or anything or anybody stop me from smoking. Thank God I was able to quit and now that I don't smoke, I hate the smell of cigarettes and realize how inconsiderate and selfish I was.

i'm not a smoker but i'll answer that question. they do it because they can , management does not enforce the policy, at least not in all terminals

good answer! I quit many many years ago, at times, yes; the smell is abvious! My city guy is a smoker, very clean guy, sometimes I can smell smoke, but big deal! I figure that is why they have windows that roll down and up, and make numberous scents of air fresheners! Some people just do not know what fights to pick, this arguing between drivers is really peddy! What about things like benefits? Let's just truck. Not petty at all driver, especially if your allergic. Not much fun running line haul with runny nose and eyes.

Why should I smell like nicotine for an adult that does not obey the no smoking rule. I write the smell in my vcr book and take it straight to a fom or higher. I even took the book to HR. That sorry smoker told me I had not right to do that. I just laughed and walked away. He deserved everything he got. I would do it again.

At my new job, they have assigned trucks and there is still no smoking allowed in the trucks, or any company vehicle or the office. He allows it in the shop as long as the smokers respect us non-smokers and don't smoke near us. The owner is a smoker as well. We have a large shop and smoking is always done by the operations office area far away from where we work, so it's never been a problem.

I have seen drivers get warned of the smell in the truck, if he find butts or ashes, they're suspended the first time, fired the second. Same goes for a messy truck. His thinking is simple, "It's not your truck, it's mine. If you want to smoke in it or trash the interior, buy your own truck."
