Pensions are a thing of the past...even in the public sector (have you heard about Scranton, PA city employees being reduced to minimum wage? How about San Bernadino, CA going bankrupt?). It's every man for himself. Start a Roth IRA.
You maybe correct to an extent . But i will speak of my own hometown (chicago). The mayor and all higher up people have sweet pensions but the city is broke. Was their pensions reduced or on the table for negotiating? I read an article a while ago that said cnwy has pension obligations . I have asked many at conway and get ignored. I have a guess some higher ups have them.?
Pensions are not a thing of the past . Its just a matter of its not expensive for certain people but for the regular middle class guy , yup its just too expensive.
And we sadly have accepted that now.
The pension is still bring kept up with. If you were in the pension, your money is still there. We get the statement every year. They give us 4 or 5 percent of our pay every quarter to replace that lost pension contributions. The 401 MATCH is still suspended. And yes, companies have to keep up with these changing times to survive. We all have to change with it..if we want a job to come to.
The 7 reasons pensions are going away are GREED,GREED,GREED,GREED,GREED,GREED, and GREED.
Pensions in trucking are going away.Pensions for Union companies are dinosaurs,1 person paying in for every 4 retirees. Not a bright outlook for them.I have my pension here and I started other means of planning for retirement. When Con-Way made changes I did too.
The old timers are getting the extra. The new hires are getting zero.
