Back in the days of yore.

If a flexer started at the same time every day for two weeks the center was obligated to make a bid position. This was rigorously enforced by RM Bill C. who has since 'retired' and is no longer with company.

The 'management' at my original CCX terminal would vary the start time 15 min. either way one day during any given two week period to avoid creating another P&D bid.

They did mess up once...and forgot the variance and some RAT called the RM (Bill C.), and pointed out the start times.

Thus another P&D bid was created.

That is how yours truly got off the flex wheel as I was at the top of the flex at the time.

Needless to say...my name was **** for a long time thereafter.
Come to think of it...that hasn't changed....

    Rat...

and yes, I am still ****...as some posters prefer to believe.

We run 2 flex boards. Guys with the most time in bid the night flex and run linehaul overflows or when we run out of drivers on the line board. Daytime board guys with some strap will catch a run pretty regularly or a city route 8 months out of the year. Both boards work some crazy hours and are subject to starvation during slow times. I did it for several years and its a tough way to make a living. I feel for those men that do it because it's tough and not conducive to family life. As a side note our top 2-3 on each board have regular start times most days/nights. The flex board saves their azz around here because we are always short on drivers.

So by the book how is suppose to work? i know alot of sic's are doing the am/pm thing but alot of others like mine are not. Us guys on the flex in these smaller barns need help on this. 20% of our total work force is on flex and they start at the top every day working down the list, the top 5% is making a decent check and the bottom 5% are making better on line haul. Needless to say, us guys that hung in here for 2-3 years busting our ass/ or waited by the phone are still doing the same but going in at 3 or 4 and getting off at 8-9(4-6 hrs) while the new hires are sucking up 3-4 nights line haul. Looks to me like another way to weed out drivers, get a year or two decent work out of someone, starve them out and hire again. Its not just a flex board persons future this effects, we are a team as one (or they would have us believe) just like a baseball team from the rookies to the top hitters but treat the rookies like **** and how long will you have a future as a team. Just saying..........

We have had other threads on here in the past about the flex board. It seems to me that each service center does it differently.

We got a 5S and lean team at every barn re-doing everything different. It is impossible to keep track what you are suppposed to be doing where. Very frustrating.
