Who has seniorty first? Company or Contractor

Over here at FXN we are doing away with the contractors. We have phased out the P&D drivers (Some of them came on as Company Drivers) and now we are phasing out the Contractors Line Haul Drivers. Some of these contractors have more than one truck on with us and have hired drivers for them and some of them have been with watkins for a few years. My question is this. Who has more senority, the company driver that has been there 6 months (me) or will the contractor be allowed to dove tail in over me because he has been a contractor longer than I have been a company driver. What is FED X policy on this?

A contractor who has been under contract with the company for 20 years is now under as guy who has been company for 20 minutes.

He is correct. It worked that way for the city contractors so i doubt it would be any different than the linehaul ones. Contractors switching over to company go right to the bottom as if they were new hires regardless of how many years they have been with the company.

We had 3 contractors at our barn who all were hired on as employees after I did with a much lower seniority date. They all kept their city gravy runs while I got shafted with peddling freight in the ghetto. No re-bidding of routes whatsover and when asked why was told "too bad" by TM. I could work 20 more years at this company and those guys will always have better runs than me.

Seniority means nothing here besides when you can take your vacation. If you want your seniority to count for something, quit this circus and go to Roadway, Yellow, UPS Freight, USF, etc. That's what I'm in the process of doing. :smilie_132:

To me a contractor or a contrator driver is just that a contractor that signed a contract to haul freight for that company. It may be an open end contract which could be terminated by either parties. They work for themselves not FXN. Do they get retirement, benefits, vacation pay or holiday pay from FXN? No. It would be like US Express drivers saying they have senority over company drivers because they haul our freight. Guess we will have to see what the mother ship has to say about it

GC sorry to haer that that is what is going on but if your still with us then I'll tell ya a little story that just happened.
Same type situation your speaking of. The TM was running the ship the way he wanted to run things with no regards to the rules, running his new hire buddies ahead of senior drivers, giving his guys the best runs and the best trucks. Someone got tired of it and sent in a speak up and next thing ya know not only the HR rep but the HR reps boss( who hasn't visited there for 3 yrs) was at the terminal having a 4 hr closed door meeting with the TM.....Point being is we have guide lines... if they aren't being followed then stand up for youself and others as it may be and do something about it.
Early on when I transfered to my present terminal(6 yrs ago) I had some issues with our TM and had to show him that I know the rules as they pertain to me and he would follow them or be called on the carpet. Every since we found a understanding of where we stand we get along great. (within the ruies) again good luck to ya.
