To get the correct answer to your question you have to specify which FedEx you are talking about.

    FedEx Express.............orange
    FedEx Ground..............green
    FedEx Freight..............red
    FedEx National LTL.......red
    FedEx Custom Critical...blue

Once you figured out which color OPCO you are looking for, someone can give you a better answer.

Actually in most cases you would start as city/dock, not sure about the west.

Around here (fed ex freight east..red) you will have to start as part time dock and get in line for full time city driver then get in line for road (starting with short runs dockwork, or extraboard) you have mention day run...unless you are very lucky I would not think in terms of a day run depending on your age, EVER, I think the major expansion is over. Once hired you may transfer to a center that is doing a freight lane realignment and get there that way....Hey city pedal is days for the most part.... Hope I didn't discourage you but you needed to hear this, also I have been here a little while and I'm still here and happy...so make a informed choice....TRUCK SAFE

Thought Freight was different from National, logo colors and all. We were told we were going to be different, colorwise on uniforms too. Guess I was told wrong.

colors on the tractor are different, you guys have the red/blue stripe but the trailer/uniforms are the same color since you are part of Freight opco

Not to worry about the pretty red and blue stripes. Anything new we get at Nat'l will be and has been white. The stripes are from WML. If you notice Freight still has a few red tractors left. But we can still all fall out in our Barney stormtrooper suits.:smilie_132:

As far as West goes many years ago (early 1980's) you had to start on the dock and work your way to P&D and after many years if there were openings in linehaul then you could move to that position by starting at the bottom of the linehaul seniority for that terminal. By 1990 one could get hired as a linehaul driver right off the street. You just had to be at the right place at the right time since they would only hire line drivers as needed.

I wonder what was going through Fred Smith's mind when he chose orange and purple for his company.
