    Just got hired!...What's next??

Went through the interview last Friday and did the pre employment drug screen yesterday. Looks like I'll be starting PandD here in Flagstaff around 5/29 or 6/2. What can I expect when I start? Is there a new hire safety/orientation? I have one year P and D experience. I'm pretty stoked

Welcome to truckingboards and to FedEx Freight West. Hopefully there will be other P&D drivers come along that can give you what to look for and what you can expect.
As a line driver all I can suggest is that you do a thorough pre-trip inspection, checking for air leaks and making sure that your valves are closed. I can't tell you how many P&D drivers I have seen come to the gate ready to go out and having all kinds of air leaks when they step on the brakes or having the congear air tank valve wide open. Some think that just because they have a rear lift gate trailer that they don't have to check for air leaks.
Proper way to check your set is to have yellow button OUT. Red button IN. Hand valve DOWN so you have brakes applied and walk all the way back and open both emergency and service side valve to see that you have air going all the way to the back and also checking the congear making sure that there are no air leaks. One thing that you will run into with West trailers is that the QR valve (quick release) will sometimes leak. I don't think FLG has a shop, but you can get somebody to show you how to fix that.
GOOD LUCK. Flagpole is a beautiful place to live and you are very lucky to be there.

Man I'd LOVE to live in Flagstaff !!!! I might add,,, (being a former city driver for 6 1/2 yrs here in the east),, take advice from everbody you can,,, BUT,,, make your own decisions,, (sp?) Nobody is perfect,, when in doubt,, don't ever be afraid to ask. Its better to take a few extra minutes to find the right answer,, than to forge ahead and make a mistake... fedex is very unforgiving,, unlike AF was. But don't be afraid,, we are all humans,,, (well, most of us)... Good luck, and ask all you want here. Bunches of great people on this board.

Glad to see that finally another P&D driver would say some positive words to let 10Speed know what he needs to do to get started in the right direction.

Ditto to what Glen says....Treat your customer the way you'd want to be treated if roles were reversed.
It will pay off many, many times. You do them a favor by helping them, sooner or later they will pay you back with a favor.
Be honest with them. If you see a questionble tear or wrinkle in a carton, point it out. Don't try to hide it. Let them be the one to say "It's nothing".
Before you know it they will trust you. They're busy in back of warehouse, they'll sign your bills without even seeing the freight.
Get there at lunch time and they go ahead and recieve your freight. They have a pick-up and you can't get there before they close. They'll wait.
There are some peddle drivers with chips on their shoulders. They don't do anymore than they actually are required to do. Bump the dock and then sit in chair waiting for reciever to unload the freight. Others will yank freight off, get bill signed and head to next stop.
Guess which ones consistantly get their work done day after day and which ones have problems with their customers.......
