Things are pretty screwy at UPSF right now. If you can afford to weather out the storm, it would be a wise move to plant your feet in with this company before things expand.

A lot of it depends on which area you are looking into working out of. I work out of the Portland, Oregon terminal and I will admit that UPSF is pretty unstable in the West. Even though I am working every day, things are still too uncertain at this point. There have been many runs cut and many lay-offs(with more rumored to occur in the future).

If you are looking for something more predictable or less turbulent--I would steer clear of UPSF for at least another couple of years or so.

I have talked to a few Conway drivers(employees and ex-employees) and none of them spoke very highly of the company. Personally, I am waiting for FedEx to post an driving opening in my area because I would perfer to go somewhere where things seem to be more stable.

Sceamy if I were you I would try to get on at FedEx Frt right now!!!! According to some powers to be and the rumor mill FedEx is opening up a new hub out off of I-70 @ exit 80 at the end of the year. Now would be the perfect time to start the application process as it is a long drawn out event. Good luck man!!!!

A few weeks ago when I had my interview an operations manager told me that too. It's going to be something like 250 doors, and he said that fedex isn't the type of company to build a huge terminal and not use half of it. When it comes online think how many people they'll be hiring... it'll be like gaining 7 years of seniority. Maybe when that happens I can get a linehaul bid.... I can only hope.

Stay away from Conway right now. Most drivers I run into on my route used to work for Conway and they are a lot happier at FedEx, Holland, and even Pitt Ohio. Conway does pay pretty well $23.05hr .56 mile but it takes 5 years and 3 mth to get there. If you have some people under you it isn't that bad but you do not want to be at the bottom here. As far as I know they have decided to hire only when they have to now so it would take a while to move up as well.

If the union is not in the terminal you are looking into, you probably want to get in now, you will escape the initiation fees for the union.

The local cartage will be at $26.15 top end at the end of the contract, road will be .4079 to start, end contract will be .66 per mile.

Start for local cartage will be $14.63 per hr. for 3 years, with c,o,l raises twice a year. top end rate for local cartage will be $26.15 by 2013.

    In Ohio ?!
I wonder why, with the Dayton hub being approx. 40 miles to the west?
I always heard Dayton was the 3rd or 4th largest hub in the country for FedExFr. Wonder why they would put another big one so close. Anybody know? :smilie_132:
    Maybe I have misunderstood somebody,
    wouldn't be the 1st !!

Maybe they are moving the Dayton hub over to the new location?

Don't get too excited just yet... there may be some guys transfer from other centers to get the benefit of a large linehaul center. Mansfield, Chillicothe, maybe some guys from Dayton.... Ya never know but don't get discouraged...Still continue to try I've been wrong before

Rumor has it they are building onto Dayton hub too. Don't think they will move the Dayton hub to Columbus. If anything they will use it to help break some of the east coast freight so Dayton don't get slammed with it? Just a guess!!
