Hello all. I was wondering if some of you can help me. I am considering applying to Fedex frt in the chicagoland area. Anybody on here work in the Elmhurst or Des Plaines terminals? These are closest to me. I'm looking for info on starting pay, benefits, start times, how long will it take to start after i apply, coverage areas, equipment (ive seen some VNs on the road is it all updated rigs?) general stuff that i should know going into a possible interview (hopefully soon) :smile1: I have been in trucking for 12 years and do regional work out all week home on weekends but the kids are growing up i need more home time. Any details greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.
Keep on truckin......

I am out of the AUR center so I would think things should be similar. Starting pay is around 19.00 per hour and I'm not sure for mileage. Benefits kick in after 30 or 60 days if I remember right. I would bet you would get an afternoon starting time and run a shuttle run to one of the hubs at night. Most of our older international tractors have been phased out and have been replaced with reclassed volvos from the road or you might get on of those good big a$$ kenworths to drive. I'm not sure what their coverage areas are If you apply you have to be patient!!!! Once you apply it can take a month or two before you actually start work. Once you get in it is a pretty good place to work. Every center has its bad days but all in all I like it. Good luck!!!!
Is all that info describing a linehaul position? What does a city driver involve? What are the start times for that? Also, is there dock work involved. Thanks for the info.
That is what a new city driver will do. Until you get some drivers below you, you are pretty much a combo driver. You may do a volume switch in the city then you work the dock and then you run to the hub. And sometimes the hub will keep you there to work their dock for a couple of hours then you drive back to your home center.
