i doubt it.what fedex will do is work people just enough not to call it a lay off.you will see guys working just one day ore a couple of hours a day.you don't really expect fedex to do the right thing do you?
With companies such as vitran, USF/yellow, conway, Jevic laying people off and or closing terminals; I was wondering if any such thing was happening at FedEx, or if you predict it to happen.

Our bottom 4 road drivers had the option of taking $3000 and quitting or go to the bottom of the city board and work the dock.
i think i would take the city.if they were smart they would raise hell if a part time guy even thinks about punching before them.
its slow done here in south texas. only working 6 hours a day on the dock. but I got to go to dallas next week for training. so maybe I will get my 40 there.
how can you work for a company like that and be proud your at there mercy I could never do it
And where do you work in this time of great growing economy, and over abundance of wealth and work...
Please enlighten us...
don't worry, I'll wait!
As for the question of the thread.. Things are picking up here in the south. I work a hub, and see faces that I have not seen running in a long time. and they are not filling vacant bids.. they are running extra slots.. this has been happening now for about a month.
Have noticed less city drivers working the dock as well.. why? because they are in the city for 8 to 10 hours..
we have just hired a good handfull of Full-time dock employees and also put on more part time.. this has not happened in a long time..
DDC guys are finally coming off the dock and holding steering wheels..
It's freight! it dont take a Rocket Scientist to figure out it comes in yearly cycles.. it flows with economical growth and slow down.. it falls off in the winter and election years.. it grows the two years after an election and when the economy is growing.
Our business in LTL derives off the manufactering sector and the housing market.. not perishables and groceries...
We do good when these parts of the economical cycle do good..
It's also a proven fact... that when freight is up.. people cry because they are working too much.. and when it's down.. people cry because they are not working enough..
there is no fine medium.. pick your band wagon and stick with it I guess.

I think it's coming... it will not hit us like a brick, so the way it usually does..
Just wish the government would open their eyes and see what is happening outside of their realms... I can't even get a cab to the bar for a decent price anymore.. darn fuel prices.
i work in mobile al and they havent replaced 3 guys that have quit in the 2 years ive been here and everyone still does not work 40 hrs a week.things are slow here but true it does slow down during election years
