You forgot tango and landstar. We get 5 trls a day.
Its not like ALL of the economy freight goes cross country
The over night freight customers are a big part of our business, so as long as we have that, we'll need line drivers. Now if you start seeing subhaulers in day cabs, then the end is near. TP
we are moving to a light asset model, soon all drivers will be owner ops... o wait that's that mike varnco in me speaking.
Some of you are right. It was such an open ended question. It is true that for the most part Fedex will need to keep Road drivers to haul their Outbound freight to the hub and back to your home terminal with your Inbound Priority freight. And a few terminals still have Priority relays into and out of hubs at night. And there are still some Priority meet and turn runs.
But The Road Drivers who currently haul Economy freight into the 5 Economy hubs in the daytime,(and the opposing Night Relay runs) and then back to their home terminals in the afternoon are the people who could easily be eliminated in my opinion. The Rail is working very well. They could easily eliminate these Road jobs and have a 7 day Dock operation at the 5 Economy hubs to shuttle boxes to and from the Rail yard, just in case the Rail is delayed for any reason. Just something you should consider my fellow drivers.

Any other tidbits on how to screw the rest of us that you'd like Harrison to read?
This is not news to HRO. I just feel many senior men are not willing to face the truth of the future possibilities. The Economy hub I go to already runs a 6 day operation. So, it won't be long in my opinion. I mean they have a banner out on the street declaring that they are "Hiring Drivers" what are they hiring them for? to fill the bottom of the board with a Friday-Tuesday schedule?
I guess you don't understand how Economy freight works... All Economy freight is routed to the economy hub and from there it is consolidated. But it must go to an Economy hub. It is then routed by rail to the Economy hub that will get it there within 5-7 days. And then a Night shuttle driver hauls it back from a hub to the destination Terminal.
I know how it works genius. Economy is available to all points in between. Do you reckon it goes on a train from say...CGT to IND? You do know we dont travel from every terminal to the rail head right?Originally Posted by POPCORN
