It could be a structural integrity thing.....but RC has long been convinced that there are indeed people in Arkansas that lay awake at night thinking of ways to torment drivers.
Does anybody know why they only put 2,3 sometimes 4 holes in the stands? Why not have the holes go at least halfway down, so no matter if the trailer is sitting low you can still have a hole instead of cranking real high then the next person has to lower it so they don't have a high hook. The only thing I thought of was the fact if there was more holes instead of being solid maybe the support would not be as great and it would bend??

Hate to tell you that wasn't a Arkansas deal. I believe that was a Viking and Watkins.Originally Posted by Richard Cranium

Hillbilly is right, it is just another one of the crappy parts of the merger. We got rid of the nose stands a long time ago and the National guys just had to bring them back.
We were still dragging old Viking nose stands in 05-06 year They are done now thankfully. I think its this year all but 17000 series and up that have nose stands will be gone.Originally Posted by Big Dave

I've haven't seen a P trailer with a nose stand. You sure it wasn't just a retrofitted trailer. When they thought it was a great idea to ship all slick side pups to Texas to have decking logistics put in the.Originally Posted by Richard Cranium

Back in the good ole days of AF their old PW pups had nose stands that only had 3 or 4 holes way up at the top of the pole so if you were really short you could walk under the nose of it during a rain storm and not get wet. Just kidding but they did have to be jacked way up in the air and had a tendency to get gobs of 5th wheel grease all over the bottom of the post where some unsuspecting driver would put their hand on to hold it steady while they pulled the pin and lowered it to the ground. All the while cussing anyone that might listen of how they had just ruined a brand new pair of gloves. It never happened with the old ones, just the new ones. Also all the crank handles were bent in some weird way as to torture you into either mashing your fingers against the underside of the trailer or wacking your self in the chin with the handle. Those slicked walled wanna be decking trailers are a joke. They catch double stacked skids and drop them in the floor.

These features were soley meant to torture the driver. Just like the dolly handle located on the passenger side.
