Conway not being fair at all service centers!

If Conway would pay the same at all sevice centers and plus pay time and half after 8hr and get some dam dock workers so the drivers dont have to work some dam long on the dock after sweating thier asses off all day or all night they may avoid the union! the southern states get time and half after 50hrs! that is so ty! But out west and up north they pay time and half after 8hrs! and get paid more per hr! They still treat this company like its still ccx or cse or cwx this is so old! Come on conway catch up with the times! We have not had a raise since 2007! and the top out time is bull! and the starting pay is ty! You have student drivers comeing out of conways school makeing the same as a man that started with conway but has 18 year in the ltl industry! And they are hitting backing into things accidents left and right! But they still start them out at the same ass someone with 18yrs in ltl that just started with conway! No pention! Conway better change this up or it will go union! I for one will be waiting to sign my union card! And all the new trucks they will be getting the southern state wont see any of that we will get all the that is totaly worn out no a/c! but terminal managers ride around in nice new ! Would the like to ride around in a 1999 or 2000 ford tarus with no a/c! No i dont think they would but its ok for us to hump this freight in a hot ass truck in 100 plus heat with engine heat comeing up from the floorboard also! They dont give to ***** about it! The union would be a blessing! If im gonna work like this all the time i want to get time and halfl after 8hrs not 50hrs! Dont know how they get away with it! But it will come to an end soon!!!!!!!!!! They pay these ceo million dollar salarys. Come on that is crazy! give that money to the ones that are realy out there doing the job and getting the freight on and off the trucks and getting it down the road! while you big shots can eat your lobster and wine and travel around in style! Hell if i made million a year i would try and act like im doing something! Ha Ha good things never last just remember that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As this is not posted in the Con-way forum, I'll jump in here on what I've heard from conversations at the grocery store, church, etc. of freinds and relatives that work at Con-way. I cant comment on all of Craw's points, but here goes. First I have never been a Con-way employee. A number of years ago Con-way tried to implement a change in how their service centers handled freight during the overnight hours, if I recall this was about the same time Con-way purchased CFI. In this part of the country Con-way proposed hiring dockworkers into service centers that had never had them before, and believe me, from my conversations with Con-way drivers I know they were pissed at this change. These drivers knew almost to the penny how much their weekly pay was going to be decreased by having driver dockwork hours cut-back.

As far as this 'dockworker to driver' program, unfortunatly this is a trend in the whole industry, the company I work for has a one also. IMHO with so many drivers in this indusry laid-off right now this program is not necessary. That being said, part of your concern wont gain any traction, I for one don't give a rats behind how much time someone has driving in the industry, the only thing that counts is how much time they have at the company they work at currently. I may be misinterpeting what your saying on this but it reads as though someone's past should allow them to have higher pay, a better bid run, a newer truck just because what they have done elsewhere even if they have less seniority than someone that may be a lot younger but has more company seniority.

As far as the no A/C in trucks, I for one, will not drive one. If you have drivers that allow this, it's because these don't stand up. OSHA regulations mandate that HVAC be in operating condition at all times for any commercial vehicle that is to be operated by an employee. This has been law since about the late 90's or so. When I left the construction industry in 1999, OSHA regulations mandated that all enclosed operator platforms have HVAC, I know at that time the time frame for trucks and other vehicles were to follow. If a vehicle was manufactued without A/C it is exempt from the law, if the vehicle has A/C it must be in working condition. To the best of my knowledge, you cant even order a commercial vehicle for fleet purposes without HVAC due to these regulations.

Concerning CEO pay, although I am not well versed in Con-way's corporate structure, this is an issue one must be very carefull to not appear jelous and bitter. One question I have for anyone anywhere that gripes about CEO pay at any company is, how much of your money have you put on the line for the company? Do you have possibly millions of your personal fortune on the line? I personaly don't begrudge anyone who has millions on the line from being able to reap the fruits of their labor or investments.

My question to all of you is... Who will force the company to fix the air conditioner ? I do know it is part of the Master Freight Contract to have the air working. But it still is a fight to get it working properly at some locations.
I have never read or heard of an OSHA law and air in a truck, by the way please show us where it is written !!

I at this point do not know the exact chapter and verse on this reg., but this I have been told it is written. A previous employer I had, could not even purchase a Case 580 tractor-backhoe without HVAC. This was about 1998-99, I was told at that time that any enclosed(meaning a cab) operator station must have HVAC if the machine is to operated by 'help for hire'. It could at that time be special orderd if it was for personal use only. During this discussion my employer mentioned that semi's and dump truck regs were a few short years away and that agriculture mandates would more than likely be latter.

As far as trying to get it fixed, if you have no luck, try making contact with your safety dept., stating that the defroster is not function properly and you don't want to put company resources at risk. For the defroster to be working properly the A/C system must operational. If no luck there, the first weigh station you get to pull in and demand an inspection, if it's closed, make a cell phone call to the state police that operate the scale.

Lack of A/C is not a direct violation of OSHA regulations...You can file a complaint with OSHA but they recommend you going through your employer first...You all know the red tape it takes to get anything done by OSHA..You can have it fixed before you get a response...
Hillary(on the Benghazi attacks): "What difference does it make"... YOU, make no difference to us, but for those families of the dead, you could have made a big difference.....

Better yet, join the union, and have it taken care of ASAP. Save tax dollars and gov't regulation by taxfunded federal agencies. Right loon?

I have watched a manager order a working air conditioner taken out of a truck and have it thrown it in the dumpster. A week later he was buying new parts to get the air back in operation. The benifits of a union contract
