How come Old Dominion never has problems with the Teamsters? I was just wondering.
Wow, that is about all a common-sense explanation a guy would have to see. Great story and I'm sure all of it true as I am breathing God's air. What is wrong with making a decent living with work rules that junior guys can't mess with? I was on the bottom of the board for years, and I don't regret the union one bit. Union dues? How many of you non-union guys know exactly what our dues are per month? I bet you don't have a clue, but of course your supers told you you so you must believe them right? Ha! Just think about every time you have a junior guy take your run, or go home for 3 hrs, then come back for 2 more cause that's all the work they have for ya.

Stark, I would also help any driver union or non. We need to stick together instead of all this dang fighting. Look south my friends. They are coming for your job and don't care if you are union or non.
This business has been cut-throat for years now...I found that out very quickly, when I tried my hand at the Owner-Operator sector back in the mid 70's...It was bad back then, but it is worse now, because of the increase in drivers...I like my company..They pay well..They leave me alone and let me work..That's basically all I ask..Not to discredit the young fellows and gals out there trying to make it in this business, but it's a totally different world these days...And my generation made it that way..Greed..Selfishness..A want to provide above average living for their families..And there is nothing wrong with these things,IF they wouldn't have included a possibility of putting another person out of work..And there is no end in sight..Fuel prices.. Competitiveness..High truck payments..I hope to live to see the day it turns around, but I really can't see it...My brothers in the Teamsters, and non-union brothers, keep your heads up..Take care of one another...Listen,with an open mind...We all have fought too hard and too long to get where we are...As my friend Muler would say YOUR BROTHER IN TRUCKING ALWAYS...SRL..
Great thinking Starkraven....You said so well, what a very good respectful post. Let's all learn from this ok?
With all due respect, I hope no unions come to con-way.
That is pretty much right, but remember the working man is indeed the one who gets screwed in the end of it all. I am a proud member of local 554 in Nebraska.
If Fedex would close the doors if the company were to organize then why are the planes still flying? Fedex pilots are in a union and got a 3.6% pay raise. As a Fedex driver I can assure you that the raise we got was no where near 3.6%. Not saying I would vote for representation at this time, but I am willing to listen to both sides of the argument. Imagine if the the prosecution were the only side of the argument you heard in a court case. Listening to only one side doesn't make you stupid or dumb, just uninformed. If your not willing to listen to both sides then your mind is closed. Listen to what both sides are saying and then make up your mind for what is best for you and your situation.
After 32 years of being an OTR driver and local driver the last 11 years with FXF I don't want anything to do with your wonderfull union. From what I have seen most of you union members can't make up your own mind with out asking somebody first. And how many of you teamsters voted for Obama?
