These union guys just cannot get their arms around the idea of funding their own retirement plans. I've been doing it for years, it's not as painfull as some might think.

How dare the Teamsters fork over a few of their own bucks!!!

I've been saying this for years. The days of paying nothing in are coming to an end. Sad part is most members don't understand the reality of economics and business.

Now I await the hate post from my Union Brothers.

The pension is a negotiated part of their pay,.......Losing that is taking a pay cut,....

You boys at conway may be willing to lay down and lose part of your pay package, But it seems that the Teamsters are going to fight for their pay!!!!

If the contract has expired, nothing has been negotiated. Is this company required to keep paying for a pension if the contract has expired??

After the negotiations if the pension is once again in the contract the company back pays to make it up to date .

I hope for your sake that you are very and I'm mean very frugal . I know I'm probably wasting my time posting this because your minds made up but shouldn't you be asking your company to give you a lifetime pension instead of hoping others lose theirs ? I have a close friend who " retired " with just under $300,000.00 in his retirement 401k account . Now that sounds like a gigantic amount but now his back to work trying to support himself and his wife . When he retired his former company didn't supply medical insurance so he paid out of pocket he nor his wife is 65 . Between what he loss the last few years in the market and his basic cost of living he's broke .

Now is he a big spender I personal know him so I can say NO . Did he take his money and waste it, NO . Between house payments the cost of medical insurance and everything else it ate him up way faster then you can imagine . So instead of hoping other lose there benefits maybe you should be hoping one day you get benefits .

So the Union kinda has the company by the balls. What would stop this company from going out and hiring qualified people willing to work for a livable wage and a reasonable 401-K???

Nothing but the original contract !!! The company has always had the upper hand and even more so today . Most companies do not want the hassle that are involved going from Union to Non Union . Then the courts get involved IE breach of contract .

How can their be a breach,if the contract has expired???Im not well versed in Union laws and how it works, but their are alot of workers that are happy with a 401-K.As economics change,I think companies should be allowed to change too.If its a bottom of the barrel company, they gonna get bottom of the barrel employees.

It almost gives off an impression that these workers are too good(or feel like their too good)for a 401-K,like alot of workers in this country have.
