It is not a good time to be a TM at Vitran. Seems as though they have been put in the position of being managements bad choices messenger to the troops.
Its true corporate wants him to do impossible tasks with the terminal ...drivers started not showing up ...he grabbed his things and left!

so true good guy but he did what they told him to do which made us hate him! if that makes any scene
Been down that road before at another place, boss actually had threats against him. This is not fair, even if you didn't like your manager, be adult enough to understand he/she is only the messenger. They either pass it on and enforce it, or they will be the next out of a job
We got our new manager in LVL.. He's already got that look in his eye, that "why the hell did I take this job" look.
Anyway, he replaced our old manager, who was fired by Hartman, he started out strong, having meetings and trying to communicate with the troops.. But two weeks after that he barricaded himself up in his office, only to come out to smoke by the propane tanks. Our terminal is still a mess with no improvement since his arrival, firing Chris B hasn't produced anything other than a lower morale and higher turn over. Great job, Vitran! Keep this kind a thing up, we'll be outta business and I'll be enjoying my unemployment while fishing.
Well, my two cents is in order to have a good terminal, you have to have a good Manager. Does not matter if you are talking the Military, USA as a whole, or even Vitran, troops have no hope without a good leader to follow, and that leader has to want to lead by example.
I would not relish the job as T.M. at Vitran or any carrier. I am not a smoker and would not want to take up the habit! Our T.M.'s have a lot on their plate! Os&d issues, vacation scheduling, drivers calling in sick and/or not showing up at all.., making delivery appointments, conducting safety meetings as prescribed, equipment failures, vehicle crashes, interviewing prospective new employees and a whole host of other details they contend with on a daily basis that I could not possibly list!!! I do not know what their compensation is, but if we knew, who are WE to say that it is too much if we have'nt been there or done that? So please keep this in mind when your T.M.'s response seems rude or uncaring when you present them with something new to handle. Do not take it personally!
Out of that list, my TM does interviews, other managers take care of all the other things listed so he isn't interrupted.
